Bailey Zappe signing becomes official, Tony Fields II waived off injured reserve
The Cleveland Browns roster continues to change for a variety of reasons. The Browns officially ended QB Deshaun Watson’s season by placing him on injured reserve with his torn Achilles. Watson is deciding between two different surgery options.
In his place, as reported early this morning, Cleveland is signing QB Bailey Zappe off of the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad. Zappe had a big game against the Browns in 2022 and started multiple games for the New England Patriots.
With Dorian Thompson-Robinson dealing with an injury, Jameis Winston is likely to take over but Zappe could be the backup this week.
Cleveland also waived LB Tony Fields II, the team’s fifth-round pick in 2021, off of injured reserve. Fields has played in 45 games in his four seasons with the Browns, including 783 snaps on special teams.
On Tuesday, GM Andrew Berry also brought back RB Gary Brightwell and released OT Sebastian Gutierrez in a change on the practice squad.
