Browns fans won’t be surprised but Nick Chubb might be “close” to fully back to his old self in Week 7
While it is easy for Cleveland Browns fans to say that “nothing would surprise us” when it comes to RB Nick Chubb, the reality is no one really knows what to expect. Chubb is attempting to return from a second major injury that many would never had made it back from the first time.
As the Browns get ready to face the Cincinnati Bengals, the offense needs significant improvement. Most have tried to temper expectations that Chubb could be that after not playing for over a year. Emotions have run high this week with Chubb’s letter, behind-the-scenes interviews and the latest video as “Batman” puts in work to return.
Those emotions could be stuck in overdrive if what Cleveland staff saw in practice translates to the Chubb of old running all over the Bengals in the Battle of Ohio:
It just seems so unrealistic to expect Chubb to be anywhere close to the running back he was in the past given his injury. That is especially true with the Browns offensive line and limited passing game with QB Deshaun Watson struggling.
In 10 games against Cincinnati, Chubb has averaged 17.5 carries for 90 yards. His worst game was 14 carries for 34 yards in 2022 with his best coming in 2021 when he had 137 yards on just 14 carries.
Chubb’s last game against the in-state rival was the opening game of last season when he had 18 carries for 106 yards.
What are your expectations for Chubb’s performance today? Are you putting him in your fantasy football lineups?
