Dawand Jones’ struggles seem to have cost him his starting job
Prior to the 2024 NFL season, the Cleveland Browns were thought to have three starting-level offensive tackles. However, only one of them played in training camp which meant an expected strength has become a weakness and the offensive line play is one of the issues plaguing the team to start the season.
The one tackle that actually got work in training camp and preseason, RT Dawand Jones, has also struggled mightily this season. Jones seems out of shape and has struggled to hold blocks in the run game and get in front of rushers in pass protection.
With Jack Conklin back on the field today, it seems that Jones will be benched based on pregame lineups:
Jedrick Wills remains as the starting left tackle despite also struggling. Perhaps the veteran Conklin can help right the ship with Nick Harris and Michael Dunn starting at center and right guard due to injuries.
Jones has dealt with some injury concerns early in the season and might benefit from a couple of weeks off.
What looked like a good problem to have, three starters, has turned into hoping Conklin can return from yet another major injury to help salvage the offensive line.
