Losses like the one the Browns suffered have consequences that will shape the future of the team
Something is broken with the Cleveland Browns after suffering an absolute beat down at the hands of the Washington Commanders. Whatever it is, it likely occurred in Berea in the decisions made after the Browns playoff loss that ended last year’s improbable run.
There is no need to give out any type of grades after a performance like that. In fact, the play is so bad that people are beginning to wonder if 2017 was a better year.
Quarterback Deshaun Watson had another miserable game that now has become the norm after five weeks. Watson and head coach Kevin Stefanski were visibly frustrated with each other after a miscommunication that led to Watson walking off the field and taking a delay penalty.
Cleveland’s defense had no answers for the rookie quarterback as they were dominated up front and failed to play sound football again. The team overall looks outmatched and out-coached in every game they take the field.
The contrast between the two teams on Sunday was a stark one. Jayden Daniels was everything the Browns hoped they were getting when they traded three first-round picks to acquire him.
He escaped the rush and delivered the football downfield with amazing throws and ripped off big gains with his legs.
Drastic changes are necessary (will they come at QB? Stefanski answered that already) and will certainly be coming over the next few days. The Browns will need to shift their focus on the future while playing respectable down the stretch.
Grades: Everyone except Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah (who missed Daniels a couple of times but also had the two big plays for the defense), Corey Bojorquez and Dustin Hopkins get “F” grades after initial watching.
