Brownies and Frownies from Browns Week 6 loss to Eagles: Not a lot to love, more to hate

Each loss becomes a wooden stake to the Browns 2024 season

The Cleveland Browns are facing some grim realities without scoring very many points with this anemic offense. On many social media platforms, more and more season ticket holders have their seats listed for sale. Many of these ads have listed all of the remaining games instead of just a few. Ouch.

The Philadelphia Eagles are a very good team. Good teams usually find ways to defeat the weaker clubs and then power onto the next opponent.

Before this game, the only Cleveland players that were showing up in the Top 50 of any category were punter Corey Bojorquez and kicker Dustin Hopkins. Which is sad. Hopkins will come on when the offense can’t score touchdowns while Bojo is trotted onto the field when the offense has failed yet another drive and needs his cannon leg to bail them and set up the other team as deep as possible.

Although the Browns were expected to lose by at least three touchdowns, Cleveland only lost by a slim margin of 20-16.

So who played well for the Browns? Who didn’t?

BROWNIES

Cleveland Guardians - After a long season, the Guards pulled off a 7-3 win in Game 5 over the pesky Detroit Tigers to advance to the ALCS, their first appearance since 2016. There is definitely something to cheer for in Cleveland. Previously known as the Indians, Cleveland won the World Series in 1920 and 1948 and lost the championship in 1954, 1995, 1997, and 2016.

Game 1 of the ALCS begins in New York October 14 with first pitch at 6:38 (Eastern) on TBS against the New York Yankees. New York’s other team, the Mets, will play the Los Angeles Dodgers the day before in the NLCS. The winners of both best-of-seven matchups will meet in the 120th version of the World Series.

S Rodney McLeod - A one-man wrecking crew today. The second game in a row he has played well. Early in the game, he stopped TE Dallas Goedert short on a third-and-five. On the Eagles’ next possession, QB Jalen Hurts was forced out of the pocket and took off into the second level. It was McLeod there with an open-field tackle or else Hurts would still be running. In the second quarter, he nailed DeVonta Smith who had beaten CB Denzel Ward across the middle for a 13-yard gain. Facing a third-and-13 midway into the third stanza, Hurts hit Barkley who appeared to have a path as McLeod took him down after just a seven-yard gain and a punt. McLeod made a valiant effort to stop Brown from scoring after CB Greg Newsome misjudged a pick play which left the receiver wide open. The touchdown scamper featured a timely bounce right into McLeod’s hands, then he judged his downfield blocking like a champ. Led all Cleveland defenders in tackles with eight. Even when starting safety Juan Thornhill is healthy enough to return, why would the...
