Sean Payton called the Ravens “probably the toughest opponent for us to date.”

Good morning, Broncos Country!

The Denver Broncos play in a big and meaningful game today.

In fact, CBS is sending Jim Nantz and Tony Romo to broadcast it. This is the first time the top TV crew will do a Broncos game with Sean Payton as the head coach.

And while Denver is a massive underdog to the Baltimore Ravens, +9.5 at most legal sportsbooks, there is a path to victory.

The Broncos must control the line of scrimmage, have success through the air, and try to force Baltimore to be one-dimensional on offense.

Payton told the Denver media it’s all about the details.

“I wouldn’t go into that and cover the way to win ever. Meaning, fair question, but … Obviously when you look at the strengths of this team, they’ve been successful. I said at the start of the week, these guys, they do a great job of running the football, their explosive plays, their red zone offense. All those numbers are at or near the top. Defensively they’re very physical.

“The thing you notice on tape is that they’re really good tacklers, and they’ve always been real good in the kicking game. So the focus for us is on the details of our game plan and going in and playing one of our tougher opponents — like I said, probably the toughest opponent for us to date.”

Payton also mentioned that Denver must match the Ravens’ physicality.

“Each division is a little different,” Payton told the media on Friday. “And certainly when you talk about Baltimore, Pittsburgh, and we haven’t gotten to Cleveland or Cincinnati yet, but there’s definitely a personality to what they want to do, and how they want to play. We want to have that kind of personality as well. I think it’s important in today’s NFL.”
