Now that the Kansas City Chiefs have moved to 8-0 after an overtime win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers tonight, we have the opening odds for the Denver Broncos road game against the AFC West leaders next Sunday.
According to FanDuel, the Broncos will open huge 9.5-point road underdogs to the Chiefs in Week 10. The over/under stands at 41.5 for this matchup.

The line here is probably spot on from just a matchup perspective and where each team is coming based on their performance last week, but I feel like division games are always tighter than people expect and, frankly, Denver has played Patrick Mahomes rather well in recent years. Denver lost to the Chiefs by a single score in three of the last four times they have lost to them and the biggest margin of victory was from their last matchup — one that Denver won 24-9.
So that makes me think we’ll see a huge overreaction to the poll below due to the Broncos falling flat on their face last week against the Baltimore Ravens in that 41-10 beatdown. They had opportunities early to make that game close, but you miss on those opportunities and the best teams will make you pay for it. Baltimore is too good not to run away with it after those missed chances.
Given that overreaction, I think the Broncos will overperform people’s expectations against the undefeated Chiefs next week. Division games are always closer than people expect even when there is a clear good team and a clear bad team. For once, the Broncos are somewhere in between those ranges, so I expect a very competitive game on Sunday.
