The Cleveland Browns have added a Super Bowl-winning offensive lineman to bolster their depth ahead of OTAs and minicamp.
AMDG Sports, the agency of former Los Angeles Rams offensive lineman Brian Allen, announced on Tuesday that the Cleveland Browns have signed the 28-year-old. Allen spent each of his first six seasons with the Rams.
The Rams released Allen back in February in a cap-saving move that cleared up $4.9 million for GM Les Snead and company. Steve Avila, who played guard in his rookie season, will shift over to center to replace Allen.
Cleveland boasts one of the best offensive lines in football, led by veteran stars Joel Bitonio, Wyatt Teller and Jack Conklin. 2020 first-round pick Jedrick Wills Jr. and veteran Ethan Pocic round out the starting five.
Pocic has been Cleveland’s starting center over the last two years. 2022 seventh-round pick Dawson Deaton is the No. 2 center on the Browns’ depth chart, so Allen is currently slotted in as the third-stringer.
The Rams went to the postseason four times (2018, 2020, 2021 and 2023) and reached Super Bowls 53 and 56 during Allen’s six-year tenure. They defeated the Cincinnati Bengals in SB 56 to claim the franchise’s second Lombardi Trophy.
Cleveland general manager Andrew Berry has done an excellent job improving the Cleveland roster following a surprise 11-win season that led to the franchise’s second postseason berth in four years.
He found a much-needed No. 2 wide receiver to help Amari Cooper in Jerry Jeudy, whom the Browns acquired from the Denver Broncos for two late-round picks. Elsewhere, Jameis Winston and Tyler Huntley were both signed to provide valuable QB depth behind injury-prone starter Deshaun Watson.
If the Browns’ key stars on offense can stay healthy, this team should take another step forward after squeaking out 11 wins with four different QBs in 2023.
