The Denver Broncos are in a good position with rookie quarterback Bo Nix, who has exceeded expectations this season as a player, and he’s hoping the team can find a way to bounce back this week as they prepare for another AFC West showdown, this time against the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs.
When the NFL schedule released back in May, nearly everybody in the world penciled Week 9 and Week 10 as losses for the Denver Broncos. They dropped Week 9’s matchup against the Baltimore Ravens and missed out on several big opportunities offensively but had no answer for Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry. Week 10 presents a matchup between a young Broncos team and an undefeated juggernaut, the Kansas City Chiefs.
So how do the Broncos avoid falling into the trap of losing two in a row?
“You have to separate them,” Nix said. “You have to take the good things you did at Baltimore, take the things you can learn from, and go into this game and not make the same mistakes over and over, and continue to do the good things that you did well and do them at a high level. You can’t always dwell on the past or worry about what has been. You have to move forward to what is going to be. We’re excited. We have a hungry locker room, and one game, one moment one loss doesn’t define us. That was a tough team. It was going to be tough to go on the road and win, and there for a minute we were in the game and then we just let it slip away from us. It’s not going to crush our season by any means. We just have to take the moment that we have. We get to go and play an undefeated Kansas City team, and go to their place, and put the ball down and play.”
The Chiefs haven’t been playing their best football this season offensively, but their defense has been playing at a very high level. For Nix and the Broncos offense, it will be a tough challenge for them, especially in their first divisional road game.
Right now, Denver is 1-1 in AFC West matchups, beating the Las Vegas Raiders at home and losing to the Los Angeles Chargers at home. A win on Sunday would hand Kansas City their first loss of the year but give Denver a 2-1 divisional record and rebalance their conference record to 3-3. A hostile environment like Kansas City will be challenging, but Nix is excited for the opportunity.
“It’s my favorite,” Nix said. “I think I’d rather play in a hostile environment than a low-level environment that’s not as much fun, no fans at the game. You have to kind of bring your own energy. I think these games are fun because there’s a level of excitement, a level of passion going into the game....
