Another day of no practice for Keon Coleman, but Christian Benford is a full participant

The Buffalo Bills will travel west this weekend to take on the Indianapolis Colts, but before they do, they have a host of injuries that their athletic and medical teams are trying to sort out before injury designations are assigned tomorrow.

Here’s a look at how the injured players are trending as we hit the mid-point of the practice week.

Buffalo Bills injuries trending up

  • CB Christian Benford (wrist)
  • LB Terrel Bernard (ankle)
  • WR Curtis Samuel (pectoral)
  • DE Casey Toohill (knee)
  • CB Kaiir Elam (shoulder)
  • DB Cam Lewis (shoulder)

It’s good to see linebacker Terrel Bernard progressing to the point that he’s a full participant right from the start of the week. The same is true for cornerback Christian Benford who was a game-time decision and ultimately missed out playing in Buffalo’s Week 9 win. While wide receiver Curtis Samuel is limited, it didn’t keep him from being a part of the Bills’ game plan last week. With rookie wide receiver Keon Coleman sidelined, Samuel will be in uniform in Indianapolis as well. The other three were all in-game injuries with only cornerback Kaiir Elam being possibly significant. However, the cornerback received treatment for his shoulder and returned to play with a harness, and today he was in the red non-contact jersey.

Bills injuries holding steady

  • WR Amari Cooper (wrist)
  • FB Reggie Gilliam (hip)
  • WR Mack Hollins (shoulder)

Both wide receiver Amari Cooper and fullback Reggie Gilliam have missed a week of play — not the best scenario for a wide receiver who had only joined the team two weeks prior. However, the hope would be that both will be in uniform Sunday. Wide receiver Mack Hollins, along with Cooper, was back in the red non-contact jersey again — something he was out of all last week but had been utilizing in practice for three weeks prior to that without actually missing any playing time. In an everybody-eats-offense, quarterback Josh Allen need people to actually be at the table before he can feed them, and there’s already going to be an empty chair on Sunday.

Buffalo Bills injuries trending down

  • WR Keon Coleman (wrist)

The Bills’ rookie wide receiver was really starting to find his place in Buffalo’s offense. It looked like he had gained the trust of Josh Allen, who was throwing to him in plenty of contested-catch situations. Coleman’s blocking was getting the respect of teammates as he created openings for ball carriers. But now he’s going to be sidelined for what head coach Sean McDermott said may be “more than just this week.”

The good news, however, is that Coleman was at practice on Thursday. And, while he was working to the side and not with the team, he also wasn’t wearing a brace or wrap on his injured wrist.
