Ohio State vs Oregon, Red River Rivalry, Ole Miss vs LSU and Guardians vs Tigers make for a huge sports day
The Cleveland Browns do not play today. For some Browns fans, that is a relief as the struggles of the 2024 NFL season compare, sadly, to the winless season of 2017.
Today is an amazing sports Saturday without the stress of that Cleveland team. Instead, we get the stress of another Cleveland team facing elimination in the playoffs. The Cleveland Guardians will face the Detroit Tigers and their ace Tarik Skubal in Game 5 with a shot to face the New York Yankees in the ALCS.
Due to weather, Guardians versus Tigers was moved from an evening affair to the afternoon which will allow for Cleveland fans of The Ohio State Buckeyes to not have to focus on more than one big game at a time.
The College Football schedule for this week is led by the Buckeyes traveling out west to face the Oregon Ducks for the first time as Big 10 rivals. Ohio State is ranked second in the nation while Oregon comes in one spot behind them.
Just how big is the game from an NFL draft-watching perspective (key for Browns fans right now)? Dane Brugler of The Athletic, a young legend in NFL draft circles, has a list of the top 30(!!!) draft prospects (subscriber, $) for the game with four Buckeyes linemen leading the way:
For the 2025 NFL draft, any of those four should draw Cleveland fan’s attention.
Bucks versus Ducks would headline any week of the year but this week has far more than that.
The Red River Rivalry takes place this week but, this time, with both the Texas Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners a part of the SEC. The Longhorns are the top-ranked team in the nation while the Sooners are 18th.
Texas is loaded with NFL draft talent starting with QB Quinn Ewers, who is expected to return from injury today. TE Gunnar Helm is an exciting player as is WR Isaiah Bond. We’ve mocked OT Kelvin Banks Jr. to Cleveland for a good reason as well.
The Sooners strength is on defense with R Mason Thomas (5.5 sacks) Billy Bowman, Woodi Washington and Danny Stutsman but WR Deion Burks and TE Bauer Sharp could draw some attention.
The final ranked versus ranked matchup comes in Death Valley at night with the LSU Tigers facing off against the Ole Miss Rebels.
QB Jaxson Dart has started to build his resume as a feisty competitor who can sling it for Ole Miss while RB Henry Parrish Jr. has averaged 6.3 yards per carry on his way to 570 yards on the ground this year and nine touchdowns. The Rebels passing game is a one-man army with Tre Harris gathering in 52 receptions for 885 yards and five touchdowns.
No other Ole Miss pass catcher...
