Be honest. You didn’t believe they would find a way. And there’s no need to apologize for it. I felt the same way.
Courtland Sutton’s 13-yard reception on third and seven with less than two minutes to play broke me. Sutton set up the Broncos in the red zone with a chance to kick the game-winning field goal. I thought it was over. Nothing more the Chiefs could do. For the first time since 2015, the Broncos were going to beat the Chiefs at Arrowhead.
And then, the unthinkable happened: The Chiefs found a way. Again. Just as they’ve been able to do all season long.
It’s not wise to expect the Chiefs to come up with miraculous last-second victories each week. This trend isn’t sustainable. But somehow, thus far, it has been.
I’ve had a handful of conversations with friends and family from back home in Kansas City over the past week, and all of them have circled back to the Chiefs, seemingly with a familiar theme: The Chiefs have been lucky. They’re not as good as they’ve been in the past. This team is vulnerable.
There’s some truth to the notion that this team has been fortunate. Any team that begins the season 9-0 has to have some amount of luck. But it goes beyond dumb luck for this team.
