What is going on? What will be left on the Browns roster?

The expectations for the Cleveland Browns were extremely high rolling into the 2024 season. They had just won 11 games, were named the highest Wild Card seed, and played in a post-season game.

The roster was getting their stud quarterback into the fold again. QB Deshaun Watson was again fully healthy and vowed to make this year something special. The defense was ranked #1 in almost every category statistically while special teams boasted one of the best punters, kickers, and long snappers.

Although there was an unknown factor with Watson, the expectations were that he would return to his former playing self he exhibited while as a member of the Houston Texans. He had gone to three Pro Bowls and led the league in passing for a four-win team. Certainly, with a club that had just captured 11 wins, Watson should elevate the offense and take the franchise further.

The Browns even revamped their offensive coaching staff to fit Watson better.

However numerous media outlets questioned the 2024 version of the Browns. Bleacher Report writer Maurice Moton wrote an article on his prediction that every team would finish last in each division and chose Cleveland to finish dead last in the AFC North Division despite the playoff bid the season before.

Moton stated:

“Since the Browns acquired Deshaun Watson from the Houston Texans, he’s thrown for 14 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 12 games. Watson hasn’t shown many signs of the Pro Bowl-caliber player who led the Texans to the playoffs in 2018 and 2019. In his absence last season, Cleveland made the postseason on the strength of Joe Flacco’s arm. With Watson under center, Cleveland has operated a run-heavy offense, which leads to another subject of concern. He’s completed just 59.8 percent of his passes in two seasons with the Browns.”

Browns Wire writers Tony Camino and Owen O’Connor predicted another 11-6-0 finish. Cory Kinnan went a step further offering a 12-5-0 record.

O’Connor stated:

“With a completely healthy roster entering Week 1, the potential for this team is limitless. The 11-win 2023 Cleveland Browns have built off their success with some very key additions. Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy and former Titans head coach Mike Vrabel are expected to be huge contributions in their own way. With one of the best rosters in the NFL and a very experienced coaching staff, the Browns could easily win 12 games this season.”

GM Andrew Berry was quoted on clevelandbrowns.com as saying:

“As we go into training camp and as we go deeper into the summer, we’re really excited about the group of players, coaches and staff that we’ve put together this season. We’ve got a long way to go, a lot of work to do; but we’re encouraged by the early returns in camp, and we’re looking forward to keep going and kind of stack days together and ultimately reach...
