The Chiefs look to stay unbeaten, while the Chargers and Raiders try to keep pace
Right now, the Denver Broncos sit in a precarious second place in the AFC West. With a tough game against the Baltimore Ravens, that could change. The Los Angeles Chargers can jump Denver this week. The Las Vegas Raiders dwell at the bottom of the division, and 2-6 feels like an insurmountable task.
The Chargers get a shifting Cleveland Browns. Los Angeles will have to take on a Jameis Winston led team, with Nick Chubb back in the mix. What does that mean for Jim Harbaugh’s squad?
The big question mark for the Charger’s defense has been, and continues to be, Joey Bosa. He played against the New Orleans Saints last week, but was limited in the game, and throughout the week at practice.
On the flip side, David Njoku popped up on the injury report for Cleveland. That is a substantial issue. In his return last week he had a big game that helped Cleveland get their first win of the season, upsetting the Ravens.
It’s hard to predict this game, but if the Chargers want to keep pace with the Broncos, they will have to hold off a Browns team working to turn their season around.
The Cincinnati Bengals host the Raiders, and are a big favorite at home. The issue for the Raiders is that they are a bad football team. Their QB situation is abysmal. They have no real defense. Their head coach is probably out of his depth. They are probably challenging for a top 5 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
So a short preview seems fine, but let’s not ignore the fact that the Bengals have yet to truly find their footing in 2024. Injuries have hampered this team, and the inconsistent play has them sitting at 3-5, looking up at the Ravens and Steelers in their division, and missing out on the playoffs.
Getting the Raider this week could be a boon for Joe Burrow, and even without WR Tee Higgins, LT Orlando Brown, Jr. and RB Zack Moss, they shouldn’t have a problem with Las Vegas.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will try and do something no team in the league has accomplished all season, hand Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs an L.
Not likely, but stranger things have happened. What really has to be remembered about the Chiefs is that their offense is good, but it’s their defense that makes that team great. Steve Spagnolo has that side of the ball well prepared every week. Chris Jones is the leader of that unit, and they are the real reason KC hasn’t suffered a loss this year.
The Bucs are far less consistent from week to week. Baker Mayfield has found a home in Tampa. That’s great,...
