The San Francisco 49ers season is on the line, and they are in need of a win. They won’t be eliminated from playoff contention with a loss, but a postseason berth would require a winning streak by the Niners that we have yet to see this season.
The defense will keep the team in the game. They’ve done that all season and that shouldn’t change today despite Nick Bosa not playing. The matchups in the secondary favor the 49ers. Fred Warner hasn’t played up to his standard during the past month. He’s due for a game-changing play. If the duo of Yetur Gross-Matos and Sam Okuayinonu can give them defense 70 percent of what Bosa provides, the offense will have the opportunity to keep pace with Green Bay.
So, what will get from Brandon Allen and the offense? Perhaps a watered-down of the passing game, but that may not necessarily be a bad thing. More screens, quick throws, and getting Christian McCaffrey involved. More McCaffrey as a receiver could mean more carries for Jordan Mason. That type of balance should mean good news for the offense.
