Plus, updates about Nick Bosa, George Kittle, Trent Williams, and more
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan provided injury updates after Week 11.
Quarterback Brock Purdy has a right shoulder soreness and is day-to-day. Shanahan said Purdy suffered the injury due to a hit during the game but did not know when that occurred. He also acknowledged that Purdy’s injury didn’t affect him at any point during the game, and it wasn’t due to “throwing soreness.”
Edge rusher Nick Bosa will be evaluated during the week with his hip pointer/oblique injury. Shanahan said “yes” when asked whether Bosa has a chance of playing next Sunday against the Green Bay Packers and that you shouldn’t take a player's word on injuries in the heat of the moment right after they’re done playing a game.
Shanahan is referencing Bosa, saying he didn’t know he’d play next week after Sunday’s game. Shanahan said, “I wouldn’t say that,” in response to Bosa feeling worse on Monday compared to Sunday.
Tight end George Kittle is expected to return to practice on Wednesday after missing Sunday with hamstring irritation. Shanahan said Kittle “was close yesterday.”
Left tackle Trent Williams was “sore today and stuff. Toradal wearing off. We’ll see how he comes on Wednesday. He battled that game. Really appreciate him.” After hobbling into Levi’s Stadium, Williams did not miss a snap against Seattle. Pro Football Focus credited him with allowing two pressures — an impressive feat, considering Williams played on one leg.
No new updates for linebacker Dre Greenlaw. Shanahan said Dre is doing “mock practices on his own. Hoping to get him back in practice next week.” Last week, general manager John Lynch noted Greenlaw could take most of the 21-day window when the 49ers open his practice window.
Charvarius Ward was back with the team on Monday. He was at the game Sunday and worked out with the strength and conditioning coach. Shanahan said the team will see how this week goes with Mooney. It sounds like the Niners will get their veteran cornerback back for their upcoming road trip.
As for the rookies, cornerback Renardo Green is OK after leaving the game and being looked at by the training staff. Shanahan said the PR team “didn’t mention him to me.”
Wide receiver Jacob Cowing is in the concussion protocol. Linebacker Tatum Bethune has an MCL sprain and “will be out a while.”
