Malik Mustapha was added to the injury report with a calf injury

The San Francisco 49ers injury report is out after they held practice on Thursday.

The following players did not participate:

WR Chris Conley (hamstring)
DT Kevin Givens (groin)
CB Charvarius Ward (personal)

Left tackle Trent Williams practiced in full after his typical rest day. Cornerback Renardo Green (ankle) and linebacker Dee Winters (concussion) were also full participants.

There was only one change to the injury report from Wednesday, and that was rookie safety Malik Mustapha’s addition with a calf injury.

Signing Tashaun Gipson to the practice squad, as well as Adrian Amos during the past month, protects the 49ers from injury and prevents special teams ace George Odum from playing more snaps than defensive coordinator Nick Sorensen is comfortable playing Odum. If Mustapha’s injury is serious, it would explain why the 49ers signed Gipson.

However, Mustapha brings an element that neither Gipson nor Amos provides. He’s provided the tone-setting force in Dre Greenlaw’s absence.

As expected, Christian McCaffrey continues to trend toward making his season debut this Sunday. On KNBR, Kyle Shanahan said, “He’s been awesome these last two days. Hopefully, that continues to go well. I expect to get him out there.”
