Safety Tashaun Gipson was also elevated from the practice squad
The San Francisco 49ers announced a pair of transactions as they enter their Week 10 matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Running back Christian McCaffrey was activated from the Injured Reserve List. This is nothing more than a transactional move, as McCaffrey told Richard Sherman that he could have played against the Dallas Cowboys, but the team wanted to be overly cautious.
Kyle Shanahan said on Friday that McCaffrey had a good week of practice and that he was going to play Sunday “unless something crazy happens” on the plane.
Safety Tashaun Gipson was elevated from the practice squad. Shanahan wouldn’t divulge anything other than “he’s in the mix” when talking about whether Gipson would be elevated ahead of Sunday:
“Yeah, he is in the mix. Especially with Mustapha being questionable. He got a week in practice at Jacksonville, he’s done awesome this week in his three days. And we’ll discuss that with him over these next 24 hours. It’s nicer being on the East Coast; we get until four o’clock instead of one. But those are all things that he looks good enough to do it. Just kind of depends on the health of everyone else.”
As Kyle pointed out, this may not bode well for Malik Mustapha’s availability, though it could be precautionary or for special teams' purposes.
