The post 2025 NFL Draft: Steelers Scouts Get 2nd Look at Top QB Prospect appeared first on Steelers Now.
The Pittsburgh Steelers decided one look wasn’t enough when it came to top 2025 NFL Draft quarterback prospect Cam Ward of Miami. After already scouting the Hurricanes passer once this season, the Steelers took in the Miami home finale at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday.
In the game, Ward completed 27 of 38 passes for 280 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He also ran for a second score as the Hurricanes throttled Wake Forest, 42-14.
Ward has become the top prospect at the quarterback position in the 2025 NFL Draft with a strong junior season. After transferring from Washington State to Miami, Ward has already bested his career high in passing yards (3,774) and touchdowns (34) with potentially three or four games remaining. Those 34 TDs lead all FB players.
Ward started the season ranked 23rd on the NFL Mock Draft Database big board, but climbed to the No. 2spot in late October and has remained there ever since. Colorado WR/CB Travis Hunter is the top player on the 2025 NFL Draft board.
It seems unlikely that the Pittsburgh Steelers would be willing to do what it would take to move up to get Ward at the top of the 2025 NFL Draft, especially with reports coming out this week that the team is expected to retain starting quarterback Russell Wilson, though will all three current quarterbacks on expiring contacts, expect the Steelers to select a quarterback somewhere in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Ward’s top target could be of interest to the Steelers, as well. Wide receiver Xavier Restrepo is currently the No. 65 player on the NFLMDD 2025 NFL Draft big board. Restrepo leads the ACC with 10 touchdowns and has 979 yards, closing in on his second straight 1,000-yard season. The 5-foot-10, 195-pound receiver probably best profiles as a Z recover or slot player at the NFL level.
Miami edge rusher Tyler Baron has also spent time in the top 100, but is currently ranked 151st. The highest-ranked Wake Forest player is edge rusher Jasheen Davis at No. 319.
In addition to Wake-Miami, Steelers scouts also saw Indiana play Ohio State on Saturday. That’s the fifth time the Steelers have been reported to see the phalanx of top prospects on the Buckeyes, but the first time they’ve seen Indiana quarterback Kurtis Rourke (138) in person this season.
Keeping in mind that scouts are almost never at a game just to see one player, and that the Steelers have undoubtedly been to many more games than have been publicly reported, here’s the 2025 NFL Draft prospects they’ve seen through 13 weeks of the 2024 college football season:
Miami-Wake Forest
Indiana-Ohio State
Top 100 Prospects Scouted:
2 QB Cam Ward, Miami
