The Giants hold a top-10 pick, but is it high enough?

The season isn’t over yet for the New York Giants, but at 2-6 their odds of making the playoffs are slim indeed.

So while the Giants aren’t (yet) mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, we’re left looking ahead at the 2025 NFL Draft. And after the Giants’ 26-18 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, they currently hold the ninth overall pick, per Tankathon.

The Giants are one of seven 2-6 teams in the NFL after Week 8 (the Miami Dolphins are 2-5), and have the strongest strength of schedule among them at 0.527, forcing the Giants to lose the tie breakers.

The current top 10

  1. Carolina Panthers (1-7)
  2. Tennessee Titans (1-6)
  3. New England Patriots (2-6)
  4. New York Jets (2-6)
  5. Jacksonville Jaguars (2-6)
  6. New Orleans Saints (2-6)
  7. Las Vegas Raiders (2-6)
  8. Cleveland Browns (2-6)
  9. New York Giants (2-6)
  10. Miami Dolphins (2-5)

Much of the conversation around the Giants will hinge on quarterback from here on out. On Monday, we took a look at the (current) top quarterback prospects in the upcoming draft, and right now it seems as though there are only a couple quarterbacks who could be worthy of Top 10 picks.

Miami’s Cam Ward, Shedeur Sanders (Colorado), and possibly Jalen Milroe (Alabama) are at the top of the quarterback depth chart, and there are more than three QB-needy teams in front of the Giants. It’s easy to see the Panthers, Titans, Jets, Saints, and Raiders all in the market for a quarterback.

This is also a fantastic draft for the cornerback and defensive tackle positions, and a very strong draft for offensive tackle, wide receiver, and edge defender as well. However, a need at quarterback overshadows all other needs.
