The Bills bolster their secondary by adding one of the Utes
The Buffalo Bills have selected safety Cole Bishop out of Utah with the 60th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Following moves this offseason that saw safeties Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde depart the team, the Bills had a significant need at both positions even after signing safety Taylor Rapp to a two-year deal.
What do we know about Cole Bishop at this stage of the draft?
Bishop stood out in a good way at the combine and improved his draft stock. The Utah Utes prospect quieted any speed concerns by running a 4.45-second 40-yard dash. Bishop can line up at either safety position and be productive. He has the athleticism to cover tight ends, the range to be a high safety over top, can blitz, and hold his own in the run game. His versatility makes him an instant upgrade in Buffalo’s secondary as someone who would make an immediate impact. Bishop is my favorite safety candidate for the Bills in the draft.

What position is Cole Bishop likely to play with the Buffalo Bills?
Without hearing directly from the team, Bishop appears destined to play the strong safety role, vacated by Jordan Poyer. He brings great speed and is a tough hitter, able to keep with most athletes in coverage and bring them down in the process. Additionally, Bishop may likely find plenty of snaps playing in the box as a downhill tackler.
