Packers Film Room: Green Bay passing attack vs the Commanders

Packers Film Room: Green Bay passing attack vs the Commanders

Coming off a short week to face the Commanders at home felt like a pretty good test for this team. Sure, they beat the Lions convincingly a few days prior, but they were breaking in two new coordinators and had some turnover on the offensive line. The Commanders have a dynamic QB and ran for 212 yards in week 1.

As it turns out, it ended about the same: the Packers win 27-18 and head into their mini-bye with a 2-0 record, having held the Commanders to 230 yards (but even that 230 yards doesn’t tell the whole story: the...

C.A.L.C.U.L.A.T.O.R NFL Power Rankings – Post-Week 1

Wow, that was fun, right? Football is back, and the Packers look great, but are they really great, or did they just look great? I have no idea because Week 1 is a throne of lies, as the saying goes, but hey, let’s try to put some rigor to this anyway.

For your old-timey power rankings, there are plenty of options to choose from around the old internet, or you can just ask ChatGPT, which will tell you that Denver’s passing game was bad because of ebonix, probably. Everyone has a Power Ranking. People LOVE Power Rankings! But over here...

“Thank You, Jerry”: Packers Fans Troll Cowboys Owner During TNF

It’s now been just over two weeks since the Dallas Cowboys traded Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers, ending a very messy, very public contract dispute. In that time, the Packers have gone 2-0 against two of the NFC’s top teams from last season. And in those 2 games, Parsons has racked up 1.5 sacks and 10 pressures, 8 of them coming in the Packers’ 28-17 win over the Washington Commanders for Thursday Night Football.

It’s no surprise that the former Cowboy was the player chosen to stop by the Amazon Prime TNF post-game booth for an interview after...

LaFleur: Jayden Reed ‘is going to miss a lot of time’

Following the Green Bay Packers’ win over the Washington Commanders, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur told the press that slot receiver Jayden Reed broke his collarbone and “is going to miss a lot of time.” LaFleur said that there’s an expectation that Reed will return to the field this season, but I’d suggest that Packers fans assume that Reed is going to be out for six to eight weeks.

Without Reed, Green Bay will lean on Romeo Doubs, Matthew Golden and Dontayvion Wicks to help make up for the lost snaps. Other options also include Malik Heath and Savion Williams,...

Packers Week 2 Snap Counts

Packers Week 2 Snap Counts

Let’s take a look at which Green Bay Packers played the most against the Washington Commanders, and make some notes about what has changed between Week 1 and Week 2. Surprisingly, there were some adjustments that the Packers made to their depth chart for this game, which could have been a response to open competitions that the team still has or the Commanders’ playing style.

Quarterback

  • 63 snaps: Jordan Love
  • 0: Malik Willis

Running Back

  • 49: Josh Jacobs – 1 SPT
  • 11 Chris Brooks – 17 SPT

Packers beat Commanders 27-18 in what should have been a blowout

The Green Bay Packers beat the Washington Commanders 27-18 on Thursday Night Football in a game that felt like there was a much wider gap between the teams than the score showed. Overall, the Packers had 404 total yards compared to the Commanders’ 230 on offense, and Green Bay nearly doubled Washington’s yards per play on the night.

Ticky tack penalties helped narrow down the game, as the Packers were penalized 10 times for 77 yards compared to the Commanders’ 5 for 30. Beyond just yardage walked back, penalties in crucial situations also bailed Washington out, like when rookie right...

Packers vs. Commanders Week 2 Game Discussion Thread

After an impressive week one win, the Green Bay Packers are back on the field early for their week two contest. The team had no time to spend celebrating a 27-13 victory over the Detroit Lions on Sunday thanks to the NFL’s schedule-makers, who set them up for a Thursday Night Football matchup with the Washington Commanders this evening on just three days’ rest.

That will be a quick turnaround for all of the Packers’ players, but particularly their newest addition, Micah Parsons. The pass-rusher will have been in Green Bay for exactly two weeks as of tonight’s game, and...

Packers Inactives: Nate Hobbs to make his debut on Thursday

The Green Bay Packers have announced their inactives for Week 2: tight end Ben Sims, right tackle Zach Tom, left guard Aaron Banks, defensive tackle Warren Brinson, cornerback Bo Melton and safety Zayne Anderson. Beyond Sims and Brinson, who are healthy scratches, the other four players are all injured for Green Bay.

The Packers also brought up offensive lineman Brant Banks and cornerback Micah Robinson from the practice squad for tonight’s game against the Washington Commanders.

With Tom and Banks out, the expectation is that this will be the first-look offensive line: Rasheed Walker, Jordan Morgan, Elgton Jenkins, Sean Rhyan...

Packers place Brenton Cox Jr. on injured reserve

Green Bay Packers defensive end Brenton Cox Jr. was placed on the injured reserve on Thursday, leading up to the Packers’ game against the Washington Commanders. Cox, like cornerback Bo Melton, was ruled out on Wednesday by Green Bay for Week 2 action.

Cox injured his groin during the Packers’ Week 1 victory against the Detroit Lions and was unable to play the final quarter and a half of the game. He will likely be replaced by rookie defensive end Barryn Sorrell in the lineup, who was inactive last week due to a knee injury. Cox was Green Bay’s fifth...

Schefter: Packers ‘not optimistic’ Zach Tom and Aaron Banks play vs. Commanders

While on “The Pat McAfee Show,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter stated that the Green Bay Packers are “not overly optimistic” that left guard Aaron Banks or right tackle Zach Tom will be playing on Thursday Night Football against the Washington Commanders. Both Banks and Tom were injured last week against the Detroit Lions and were unable to finish the game. They are among five players who were listed as questionable by Green Bay on Wednesday for their final injury report of the week.

Jordan Morgan, who rotated in at right guard when the offensive line was healthy, will kick out to...

Beware Deebo!

Beware Deebo!

I think Deebo Samuel is my favorite non-Packer, at least of the last 10 years or so, because there’s really no one else like him, and whenever someone tries to make a new Deebo (See: Jalen Reagor, Laviska Shenault, Xavier Legette) it tends to not work out. Maybe the closest anyone has ever come is Kendrick Bourne’s outstanding 2021 season where he finished first in DVOA, and it’s a not surprise that as of this week, Bourne is a member of the San Francisco 49ers.

What makes Deebo so special is his incredible ability to generate Yards After Catch (YAC)...

Report: Christian Watson contract details

Report: Christian Watson contract details

According to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, wide receiver Christian Watson’s contract extension with the Green Bay Packers includes some interesting details. First of all, he has a $1.1 million base salary this year and will receive a $6.07 million signing bonus, which will bring his 2025 cash flow to $7.17 million.

In 2026, his base salary will be $3.425 million, and he will receive $1.825 million in pre-game roster bonuses. With that math, he will be making an extra $107,353 for every game that he’s active for next year.

As far as the accounting of that per-game...
