The expected deal can now be completed after Javon Hargrave was released by the 49ers.

The Vikings and defensive tackle Javon Hargrave are finally able to put pen to paper following the latter’s expected release from the 49ers. Per NFL insider Adam Schefter, Hargrave is being inked to a two-year, $30 million contract that includes $19 million guaranteed. He now joins fellow defensive tackle Jonathan Allen in the middle of the Vikings defense after Allen signed his deal early Tuesday morning.

Michael Pierce played two seasons with the Vikings sandwiched between two stints with the Baltimore Vikings.

On Wednesday morning while making an appearance on the Sports Spectrum podcast, former Vikings defensive tackle Michael Pierce announced that he’s retiring from the NFL after nine seasons.

During the 2021 season — Pierce’s only season he played in Minnesota — he recorded 20 tackles, a single-season high three sacks, three tackles for loss, and a forced fumble. The second day of free agency was very productive and filled a lot of the wish list needs for many long suffering Vikings fans.

We got a new veteran center who excels at pass blocking and a new guard with lots of upside (hopefully).

We got a new veteran defensive tackle who excels at pass rushing and possibly another veteran defensive tackle who also excels at pass rushing.

There still is a lot of work to do specifically at the backup QB position. It seems like there will be no competition for the #1...

Allen is a great fit for a 3-4 DE. He was a 3 time Pro Bowler in Washington, but it was a few years ago. Allen partially tore his pec in 2024, but was able to return in Week 18 for the Commanders. He has 8 years of experience with 42 career sacks and 60 TFLs.

The first day of free agency saw a flurry of activity and a lot of huge deals. Some of these were way more than expected including Byron Murphy. I would rather have DJ Reed at 16M per year but we do not know the guaranteed money parts of both deals yet. That will really be the true worth of the contract. I heard it mentioned that Murphy only has 35M guaranteed. That probably will cover two years making the third year a larger amount. As they say, the devil is in the details eh?...

Just when you thought the first day of free agency was coming to an end, the Minnesota Vikings decided to drop a big move right into our laps to finish the night.
