UNITY TWP., Pa. — Under head coach Mike Tomlin, the Pittsburgh Steelers have often referred to their opponents as “nameless gray faces,” a motivational tactic from Tomlin that tries to emphasize the importance of the Steelers executing their own game plan, regardless of who is on the side of the ball or what they’re trying to do.

UNITY TWP, Pa. — Within a star-studded Pittsburgh Steelers defense, James Pierre isn’t the first player that comes to mind. The sixth-year cornerback is reminding everyone he’s there during training camp at St. Vincent College, though.

As starter Joey Porter Jr. and backup Cory Trice dealt with injuries, Pierre stepped in during a pair of practices, notching an interception near the end of Friday’s session and two more in one-on-one drills on Saturday.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have released tight end Kevin Foelsch after just one week on the team, the club announced on Tuesday.

Foelsch, 24, signed with the team on July 29 after an injury to rookie tight end DJ Thomas-Jones. That injury was initially feared to be season-ending, and the Steelers only had six tights ends on the roster — despite the fact that they’ve been playing four at one time — so they needed to bolster their depth with Foelsch.

But a week later, Thomas-Jones got good news about his injury and has made a full recovery, returning to practice...
