The Pittsburgh Steelers made waves on the final day of June when they acquired All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey from the Miami Dolphins, sending their own All-Pro Minkah Fitzpatrick back to the team that drafted him back in 2019.

The Steelers made it evident from Day One of training camp that they planned to use Ramsey all over the field, playing him at nickel, on the boundary, and back at safety. That said, Mike Tomlin made it very clear that Ramsey is the top cornerback on the team.

Most of the team’s veteran starters won’t play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday for the second straight week, and Tomlin bas hinted that Aaron Rodgers might not play at all.

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin revealed on Thursday that he expects participation for the Steelers’ second preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to be similar to last week.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers, wide receiver DK Metcalf, running back Jaylen Warren, left guard Isaac Seumalo, tight ends Pat Freiermuth and Jonnu Smith, outside linebacker T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith, defensive tackle Cam Heyward, linebacker Patrick Queen, cornerbacks Jalen Ramsey, Darius Slay and Joey Porter Jr. and strong safety. DeShon Elliott. The Pittsburgh Steelers wrapped up their final practice at training camp in Latrobe earlier this week, and fortunately, this offseason, they’ve remained relatively healthy.

Cornerback Cam McCutcheon was the only player who was banged up in their 31-25 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in the preseason opener. Hopefully that remains the case over the next few weeks.

Standout performances from the 31-25 shootout win included Quarterbacks Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson, and TE Darnell Washington, who hauled in a first-quarter TD from Rudolph.

PITTSBURGH — Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was at the Steelers’ joint practice against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday afternoon at Acrisure Stadium. Roethlisberger, who retired following the 2021season, has only a few teammates left on the current Steelers roster. One of them is tight end Pat Freiermuth.

“It was great to see Ben,” Freiermuth said at the conclusion of Thursday’s joint practice. “It was great to chop it up with him. Great to see his kids. He’s one of my all-time favorites. It was great to see him.”
