The Pittsburgh Steelers clearly had the physical advantage over the Jacksonville Jaguars, and S Juan Thornhill thinks he knows why. Having experienced extended stays with the Chiefs and Browns, he knows they do things differently in Pittsburgh. And he thinks that is what allows them to separate themselves from other teams from a physical point […]
It’s been seven long months, but we finally have some real life football to talk about. Or at least as close to real as preseason games can get. The Steelers played the Jaguars over the weekend and gave us our first look at the roster in action. Several starters did not play, of course, but we got glimpses of several newcomers and the Steelers emerged from Jacksonville with a 31-25 victory.
This week, Read & React shares some observations from Week 1 of the preseason and takes stock of the roster battles to follow for the next couple of weeks....
Player: WR Scotty Miller Stock Value: Up Reasoning: Don’t look now, but here comes WR Scotty Miller, surging in the final weeks to push for a roster spot. Following a strong training camp streak, he stepped up for the Steelers in the first preseason game. On top of that, he capped off Latrobe with two […]
Mason Rudolph started the Steelers’ first preseason game, and minus one play, he impressed his former teammate, QB Ben Roethlisberger. Now the host of the Footbahlin’ podcast, Roethlisberger talked about Rudolph’s start on Saturday. Though he didn’t play much in Aaron Rodgers’ absence, he looked the part Pittsburgh wants him to play. “I thought he […]
It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for a weekly Steelers links roundup at BTSC. But first, let’s take a look around the AFC North:
Now, onto some Steelers news and discussion:

The Bengals are playing top stars like Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, and Tee Higgins this preseason, for the obvious reasons. One of those stars, however, objects to putting words to that reason, even though the Bengals have talked about it. In recent years, Cincinnati has struggled out of the gates, and it’s hurt them in […]
Would Cam Heyward really skip regular season games without a contract resolution? Due an average of $14.5 million over the next two years, Cam Heyward wants more money, but is he willing to skip games? Speaking to reporters earlier this week after reports leaked of his hold-in, he didn’t rule it out. Thus far, he […]
The Steelers continue to work out linebackers this week.
Per a report from KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson, the Steelers worked out linebacker Max Tooley Tuesday, a day after the team hosted two for tryouts and another for a visit on Monday.
Tooley went undrafted in 2024, signing with the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent. He spent six years at BYU, logging 92 total tackles, five tackles for loss, one sack, and one interception in his final season as with the Cougars.
At the Big 12 Pro Day, the 6’2, 225-pound linebacker reportedly ran a 4.58-second 40-yard dash with a...

If the Pittsburgh Steelers are going to have any success on offense, it’s going to revolve around their two young tackles. Both Broderick Jones and Troy Fautanu have loads of potential, but neither are proven in the NFL yet. This presents a problem with a 41-year old quarterback behind them. That said, Mike Tomlin seems […]
UNITY TWP, Pa. — The first thing you notice about Darnell Washington is that he is just a gigantic human being.
Even within the confines of an NFL team, where 6-foot-5 and 315 pounds is a fairly average size for some units, Washington is a gigantic freak of a man.
When you get to know Darnell Washington a little bit, his personality doesn’t necessarily jive with his chiseled-out-of-a-mountain physique. Washington is humble and quiet. He smiles a lot. He’s tough, but I wouldn’t call him mean.
Great football players usually have a killer instinct about them. A finely honed edge...
