A $100 million extension for a backup player may shock some, but the Pittsburgh Steelers already had a good idea of how the rest of the NFL valued OLB Nick Herbig. During the 2026 NFL Draft, multiple teams expressed trade interest in Herbig, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. “Sides had been working on this one […]

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ defense is looking to bounce back after a down 2025 season. Part of the team’s defensive struggles may have stemmed from losing safety DeShon Elliott to a season-ending injury in Week 8. Elliott was a key fixture of the Steelers’ defense, arguably being one of that unit’s top players in 2024. Elliott […]

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. was in attendance for the first day of the team’s three-day mandatory minicamp at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on Tuesday, but he did not participate in drills during the portion of practice that is open to the media.
Porter had been at one of the team’s two weeks of voluntary OTA sessions, but did not participate then, either, mostly riding a stationary bike off to the side.
At minicamp, he was watching drills during the portion of practice open to the media, conversing with Steelers scout Ike Taylor.

With mandatory minicamp underway on the South Side, the Pittsburgh Steelers have a number of roster spots up for grabs under a new coaching staff. Very few starting positions might be there for the taking, but for longtime Steelers reporter Mark Kaboly, there are two position battles he’s keeping a close eye on this summer. […]

They say good things come to those who wait, but for the Pittsburgh Steelers and ascending star pass rusher Nick Herbig, that wait didn’t last for very long. Shortly after Herbig skipped practices today for mandatory minicamp, the team signed Herbig to a four-year deal with $42 million guaranteed and worth up to $100 million.
Herbig had told reporters that he wanted to remain “a Steeler for life” in a media scrum following practice, and head coach Mike McCarthy spoke about Herbig doing the right things during this process.
Now we see why there was seemingly so much confidence between...

With summer quickly approaching, the Steelers have gathered for mandatory minicamp this week. As is the case for many an NFL minicamp, attention is now turning to which players will receive contract extensions — and which ones won’t.
For the members of the Steelers’ 2023 draft class, the time has come for the team to decide which players are worth anteing up for to retain their services. Pittsburgh has seemingly already made that choice on former first-round pick Broderick Jones when they declined to exercise his fifth-year option. But several other players who were selected during Omar Khan’s first draft...
Behind the Steel Curtain
The Pittsburgh Steelers already look different in a lot of ways ahead of the 2026 season. The biggest form of change revolves around the Steelers new coaching staff, which is almost entirely full of new faces. Some of which Nick Herbig is just getting to know. Perhaps his biggest change comes with Patrick Graham now […]

Top Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. attended the first day of mandatory minicamp Tuesday, but like his teammate Nick Herbig, he largely sat out of drills as he seeks a contract extension.
In the NFL, it’s a common practice known as a hold in.
“(Porter and Herbig) both took a handful of snaps during walk-thru speed installs, but not much else,” The Athletic’s Mike DeFabo reported. “Neither participated in individual periods open for filming.”
Porter told the media he found it important to attend minicamp, per ESPN’s Brooke Pryor.
“Because it’s a new start, it’s a new beginning,” he said....

Mike McCarthy will pepper wide receivers with more targets than they had last year, but he won’t shun the team’s tight ends to do so. In fact, consider him a big fan of TE Darnell Washington. Speaking to reporters Tuesday, McCarthy sent plenty of praise Washington’s way. “Love Darnell. He has been there every day,” […]
