PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. was in attendance for the first day of the team’s three-day mandatory minicamp at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on Tuesday, but he did not participate in drills during the portion of practice that is open to the media.

Porter had been at one of the team’s two weeks of voluntary OTA sessions, but did not participate then, either, mostly riding a stationary bike off to the side.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and outside linebacker Nick Herbig have agreed to a massive contract extension that will keep him in Pittsburgh through the end of the 2030 season.

Top Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. attended the first day of mandatory minicamp Tuesday, but like his teammate Nick Herbig, he largely sat out of drills as he seeks a contract extension.

In the NFL, it’s a common practice known as a hold in.
