With six trades on deadline day, this was the third-most active deadline day in league history. Here’s the sobering reality: Trades are infrequent in the NFL.

The Green Bay Packers have signed two players to their practice squad on the day of the NFL trade deadline: tight end McCallan Castles and receiver Michael Woods II. The Packers’ practice squad was already at 16 players, on a 17-man squad, so there will need to be at least one corresponding roster move to be made before these additions are final. I say at least, because there’s still a possibility that linebacker Kristian Welch, who was brought up to the 53-man roster last week and was released on Monday, could return to the practice squad, too.

At the trade deadline, the Dallas Cowboys traded for New York Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, which is interesting considering that the team just traded for Kenny Clark this summer and extended Osa Odighizuwa this offseason, but that’s besides the point. What I want to point out here is that the Green Bay Packers’ 2027 first-round pick might end up in the hands of the Jets.

The trade compensation for the Williams addition was Dallas’ 2026 second-round pick, a 2027 first-round pick and former first-round pick defensive tackle Mazi Smith going to New York.

Tucker Kraft’s knee is shot, leaving the offense without its most effective player. Nate Hobbs is hurt, leaving the secondary perilously thin (even if Hobbs wasn’t playing particularly well). And on top of all of that, the defending Super Bowl champs (admittedly in a weird season of their own) are coming to Lambeau Field on Monday.

Green Bay Packers cornerback Nate Hobbs has not been having the year that he hoped to have with the team when he signed a four-year, $48 million contract with the Packers in free agency.
