Last year, Windy City Gridiron’s Bill Zimmerman ranked the top 100 quarterbacks of all time, which featured former Green Bay Packer quarterback Aaron Rodgers as the seventh-ranked player on the list. This summer, Zimmerman tackled the running back position, this time with a more analytical approach.

Zimmerman ranked backs on a point system (within tiers), awarding 1 point for every 1,000 yards from scrimmage they recorded in their career, 5-4 points if they made the All-Decade team, 5 points for MVP seasons, 4 points for Offensive Player of the Year seasons, 3-2 points for All-Pro seasons and 1 point for Pro Bowl seasons.

Once it was all totaled up, here were the Packers who made the top-100 list all-time and where they placed:

  • #31: Jim Taylor, 40 points

“The only person to lead the NFL in rushing not named Jim Brown from 1957 to 1965.”

  • #53: Paul Hornung, 25 points
  • #68: Ahman Green, 18 points
  • #83: Josh Jacobs: 16 points
  • #93: Aaron Jones: 11 points

Below is how he had ranked the top 10 running backs of all-time:

  1. Walter Payton
  2. Jim Brown
  3. Barry Sanders
  4. Emmitt Smith
  5. Marshall Faulk
  6. OJ Simpson
  7. Gale Sayers
  8. Adrian Peterson
  9. LaDanian Tomlinson
  10. Eric Dickerson

Shocking that the Bears writer would give both Payton and Sayers a bump compared to how they scored in his point system! Anyway, if you want to see the full running back rankings, you can find them HERE.
