Cheese Curds, 9/5: Projecting Packers’ plan for Parsons

Cheese Curds, 9/5: Projecting Packers’ plan for Parsons

Will Micah Parsons play on Sunday for the Green Bay Packers? It seems that the team is trying to leave that as a bit of an open question, listing him as limited on the first two injury reports of the week and refusing to confirm whether or not they plan to make him active for the team’s week one game against the Detroit Lions.

But don’t believe it. Barring a catastrophic injury in Friday’s practice, Parsons is playing on Sunday. The only questions should be how much and in what situations.

To that end, the words typed out by Packers...

NFL Kickoff 2025: Eagles meet Cowboys on Thursday Night Football

NFL Kickoff 2025: Eagles meet Cowboys on Thursday Night Football

And so it begins. The NFL kicks off its 2025 regular season this evening with a massive NFC East matchup, as the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles host a team that has been among their biggest rivals, the Dallas Cowboys.

Last year, the Eagles opened up the season against the Green Bay Packers in Brazil on Friday of week one. That game ended in a 34-29 victory by the Eagles, but they would lose two of their next three games and go into their week five bye at 2-2. However, Philadelphia lost just one game the rest of the...

Packers extend P Daniel Whelan

Packers extend P Daniel Whelan

The Green Bay Packers have extended punter Daniel Whelan, the team announced on Thursday. Whelan was a great find from the team, as he joined the roster via the XFL’s DC Defenders in May of 2023. After beating out Pat O’Donnell that summer, he’s been the Packers’ starting punter.

Whelan was set to be a restricted free agent after the 2025 season, which means Green Bay would have had to use a $3.5 million right of first refusal tender on the punter to ensure that he didn’t hit unrestricted free agency, had the team not extended him.

Packers Injury Report: Jordan Love is still handing off 1-handed

Beyond just the nuts and bolts of the injury report, Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love, who is coming off of UCL surgery on his left thumb, is one of the bigger storylines going into Week 1, despite being a full participant in practice. According to head coach Matt LaFleur in his post-practice press conference, Love hasn’t been handing off the ball with his left hand at all in practice this week.

When pressed about whether that will alter the team’s game plan versus the Detroit Lions, LaFleur responded, “Absolutely, it can change things.” He stated that Love has done...

Packers Injury Update: Jayden Reed, Nate Hobbs return to practice

According to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, both receiver Jayden Reed (foot) and cornerback Nate Hobbs (knee) have returned to practice on Thursday. Yesterday, Reed and Hobbs were the only non-participants in Green Bay.

Reed is reportedly dealing with a Jones fracture in his foot, which he’s described as more of a pain issue than anything else. Meanwhile, Hobbs is recovering from a meniscus issue that he had surgery for this summer. This is the first time that Hobbs has practiced since the end of July.

When healthy, Reed is the Packers’ starting slot receiver, and Hobbs is a hybrid cornerback/slot defender....

The Lions are actually a great Week 1 opponent

The Lions are actually a great Week 1 opponent

In the grand scheme of things, it’s probably not ideal to face a divisional opponent in the first week of the season. It’s even less ideal to face the team that won your division last season.

That’s exactly what the Packers face in Week 1, and no, it’s not ideal. The Lions not only won the NFC North in 2024, but they’ve had the Packers’ number for, frankly, most of the last decade. Dating back to the 2017 season, the Lions hold a 10-6 advantage in their annual regular-season meetings with the Packers, including winning four of the last five....

Insider: ‘I would be shocked if Micah Parsons doesn’t play’ in Week 1

Insider: ‘I would be shocked if Micah Parsons doesn’t play’ in Week 1

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur has been non-committal about the status of new defensive end Micah Parsons. While general manager Brian Gutekunst stated last Friday that Parsons will “help us in some form or fashion” versus the Detroit Lions in Week 1, LaFleur said “we’ll see” when it came to Parsons’ Week 1 game participation ahead of Wednesday’s practice. Parsons was officially listed as limited for Green Bay’s practice yesterday.

According to ESPN’s NFL insider Dan Graziano, who just dropped his Week 1 notebook, he’s not buying it, though:

Based on everything I’ve been told this week,...

Cheese Curds, 9/4: Micah Parsons continues to dominate NFL headlines

Micah Parsons. Micah Parsons Micah Parsons, Micah Parsons.

Oh, and Micah Parsons.

Yes, that’s all anyone can talk about this week, and let’s face it — that’s understandable. Whether breaking down his potential impact on his new defense with the Green Bay Packers, trying to project how the Dallas Cowboys will fare without him, or continuing to analyze the trade itself, Parsons is the single most dominant topic in NFL discussions. It seems like his move is the biggest single story in the NFL since the whole Aaron Rodgers departure saga two-plus years ago.

That’s driven in part by the...

Schefter: The Philadelphia Eagles wanted to trade for Micah Parsons

Schefter: The Philadelphia Eagles wanted to trade for Micah Parsons

Earlier this week, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that the Carolina Panthers were one of the teams that were interested in trading for Micah Parsons, but they were unwilling to include defensive tackle Derrick Brown in the deal. Apparently, Kenny Clark really was a big part of the trade, at least on the Dallas Cowboys’ end.

Now, Adam Schefter is reporting that the Philadelphia Eagles “made a strong play” to trade for Parsons. Ultimately, the Cowboys “had no interest in trading Parsons in the division,” per Schefter.

I’m not sure how that trade could have worked out, considering the Eagles’ cap...

Video: Colby Wooden’s 2025 preseason snaps

Micah Parsons isn’t going to be the only new starter on Green Bay’s defense this year. With the Parsons trade sending former starting nose tackle Kenny Clark to the Dallas Cowboys, the Packers are going to start the year off with Colby Wooden, who has reshaped his body but was listed at 273 pounds at the 2023 scouting combine, as their Week 1 starter at the position.

So how did Wooden look this preseason, his first live action as a nose tackle? I’m glad you asked. Here’s a cut-up of all his nose tackle run snaps this preseason. Included were...

Winning the red zone vs. the Lions will be crucial for Packers’ offense

Winning the red zone vs. the Lions will be crucial for Packers’ offense

Over the years, the Green Bay Packers’ offense under head coach Matt LaFleur has had some ebbs and flows when it comes to red zone success. In 2019, LaFleur’s second year with the team, they converted 68 percent of their red zone opportunities into touchdowns, good for the second-best mark in the NFL for that season. In 2020, they followed that up with an amazing 77 percent red zone touchdown rate, which topped the league.

Since then, though, they’ve slipped. In 2021, they ranked 18th, followed by 23rd, 17th and 10th in the following three seasons.

Now, they’re hoping their...
