In Week 7, Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young injured his ankle against the New York Jets, forcing backup Andy Dalton into the game to finish out the 13-6 Panthers win. Last week, without Young, Carolina was smoked by the Buffalo Bills to the tune of 40-9. Now, the Panthers are hoping that Young will return to the lineup by the time Carolina kicks off against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

According to Panthers head coach Dave Canales, Young is day-to-day, but there is hope that he could return to practice on Wednesday after a successful workout on Monday. Since being unbenched in the second half of the 2024 season, Young has posted an 87.0 passer rating and gone 8-9 in starts. For comparison, he had a 70.9 passer rating and a 2-16 record before his early 2024 benching.

Meanwhile, Dalton has put up an 84.5 passer rating with the Panthers and a 1-6 record as a starter.

If Young, whose game is built around his mobility, plays this week, Carolina better hope that he’s fully healthy. A bum ankle against Packers pass rushers Rashan Gary and Micah Parsons, who rank fifth and sixth in the NFL in sacks despite already having sat through a bye week, doesn’t seem like a smart plan of action.

Keep an eye out for the injury report throughout the week, as it will give us a better idea of who will be under center for the Panthers on Sunday.
