After refusing pay cut, McCloud lands with a contender
Refusing to take a pay cut cost Nick McCloud his job with the New York Giants last week. It appears, though, to have helped him land in a better situation.
McCloud has signed with the San Francisco 49ers to become part of their practice squad, per Dan Duggan.
The 49ers, of course, represented the NFC in the Super Bowl last season, losing to the Kansas City Chiefs. This year, the 49ers are 5-4, fighting for the NFC West title and a playoff berth.
The Giants, of course, lost their fifth straight...
Rookie running back says. he “just didn’t hold the ball correctly” on overtime fumble
Tyrone Tracy was an emotional wreck on the sideline Sunday after his fumble on the first play of overtime set up the game-winning field as the New York Giants lost to the Carolina Panthers, 20-17.
Head in his hands with a towel placed over him by a coach for a tiny bit of privacy, the rookie running back was inconsolable.
After the game, a somber Tracy explained what happened.
“I just didn’t hold the ball correctly,” Tracy said. “I was trying to make a move, so...
New York Giants news for Monday
Good morning, New York Giants fans!
New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll continues to preach an “embrace the process” message to his locker room even after falling to 2-8 on the season following a humiliating overtime loss to the Carolina Panthers in Week 10.
“I’d say there’s certain things we’re doing better. The record isn’t what it needs to be. But we’ll go back and evaluate the things we need to do to finish up strong the last half of the season,” Daboll told reporters after the game.
This is not the message fans want to hear nor is it something they believe. However, defensive...
The New York Giants lost their fifth straight game on Sunday in Germany, falling to the Carolina Panthers in embarrassing fashion.
Brian Burns, who spent the first five years of his NFL career with Carolina, was particularly hurt by the loss.
“Yeah, it hurt,” he told reporters. “You know, losing like that and losing to a team I spent extended amount of time with hurt, and seeing all those faces that was in the building was a little tough. But it was straight. I was happy to see them.”
Burns was a notable performer against his former team, but in...
The New York Giants have put a lot of bad play on film this season but none of it compared to a third-and-1 flea-flicker that failed spectacularly on Sunday in Germany.
Trailing 10-0 with just under 8:00 remaining in the second quarter, head coach Brian Daboll decided to get cute with an unnecessary play-call. But even more ridiculous and embarrassing than that is what transpired.
After running back Devin Singletary tossed the ball back to quarterback Daniel Jones, he just stood there. Two receivers were running wide open and DJ simply froze before taking a sack and ending the drive....
The quarterback should not start another game
We have more or less reverse-engineered game day coverage at Big Blue View, with ‘Kudos & Wet Willies’ running shortly after the game and this post coming the day after. Too bad the New York Giants can’t reverse-engineer a disastrous 2024 season.
Maybe even the last six or seven seasons.
I have supported Daniel Jones — when I have felt he has deserved it — for much of the past six seasons. I understood why then-GM Dave Gettleman drafted him No. 6 overall in 2019. I understood why Joe Judge stuck with Jones....
The New York Giants somehow managed to reach a new low on Sunday in Germany, falling to the Carolina Panthers, 20-17, in humiliating overtime fashion.
Whenever we think the Giants have hit rock bottom, they find new and inventive ways to prove there could also be worse.
Truth be told, we’re out of words at this point. We’ve recycled the same post-loss talking points for years and through multiple regimes, and it all just sounds like a broken record. Poor personnel handling, bad play-calling, bad coaching, poor execution, blah, blah, blah…
Here are the snap counts that contributed to the...
Your Sunday Night open thread
The 6-3 Houston Texans will host the 7-1 Detroit Lions on Sunday Night Football.
This promises to be a great game between two of the rising forces on the NFL landscape. Both teams are a bit beat up, with the Lions missing offensive tackle Taylor Decker and the Texans missing edge defender Will Anderson Jr. However, they both have excellent offenses helmed by extremely efficient quarterbacks.
The Lions are slim favorites on the road, with a mere 3.5-point advantage per FanDuel Sportsbook. Will that hold true? Or will the Texans come away with the win...
