Giants defense defined by one major strength, one major weakness

Giants defense defined by one major strength, one major weakness

One could argue the 2024 New York Giants defense has been a contraction of itself. They lead the NFL in sacks per game (3.6), which is one of the few pleasantries of this rocky season, and are sixth in red zone defense.

But they are deficient in other areas. Interceptions are one, for instance. They have just one pick over their first 10 games, tied for last in the league with Cleveland.

The Giants’ only pick has been by rookie linebacker Darius Muasau, not by any of the team’s talented young defensive backs. And that happened in garbage time of...

Report: Daniel Jones 'may be staying' as Giants' starting quarterback

Report: Daniel Jones 'may be staying' as Giants' starting quarterback

On Monday, New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll held a press conference, revealing that the team would “evaluate” everything during their bye week. That included the possibility of benching quarterback Daniel Jones.

However, Daboll chose his words very carefully, and those of us at Giants Wire warned that the coach was actually leaving the door open to continue starting Jones rather than leaving the door open for his benching, which is the way his comments were presented elsewhere.

Although no official decision has been announced as of yet, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reports that Jones may, in fact,...

Daniel Jones ‘may be staying’ as New York Giants’ starting QB, per report

The Giants might not be done with him just yet

If you believe what well-connected NFL insider Dianna Russini of The Athletic is selling, the New York Giants might not be done with Daniel Jones just yet.

“At this point from what I’ve been hearing and the conversations I’ve had Daniel Jones may be staying as the starting quarterback here for a few more weeks,” Russini said on the Dan Lebatard Show on Friday. “I’m not sure if this is completely done. We’re going to know more this weekend, though, when they come back from their bye and they...

Giants have made progress on offensive line, but the work isn’t done

The line is functional now, but is it set up for the future?

The New York Giants won the 2011 Super Bowl with help from an aging, creaky offensive line on its last effective legs. Since then, the line they have trotted out has more often than not resembled a sieve.

Three general managers, five head coaches, and many offensive line coaches have tried to fix it. None has had more than fleeting success.

Current GM Joe Schoen has culled together a 2024 line that has at least been competent, even with star left tackle Andrew Thomas out for the...

Wide receiver makeover might be New York Giants’ GM Joe Schoen’s best work

Wide receiver makeover might be New York Giants’ GM Joe Schoen’s best work

The Giants have a young, explosive group

The way in which he has re-shaped the wide receiver position is perhaps Joe Schoen’s greatest success as general manager of the New York Giants.

After drafting Daniel Jones No. 6 overall in the 2019 NFL Draft, Gettleman set about tryin to build a dynamic post-Odell Becham Jr. era receiving corps for his new quarterback. He never succeeded.

The best Gettleman ever did was to select wide receiver Darius Slayton in Round 5 of the same draft in which he took Jones.

  • The 2019 free-agent signing of Golden Tate was a flop....

New York Giants’ rookie class is making the grade

2024 draft class looks filled with keepers

The NFL schedule spared us this week, and the New York Giants are guaranteed not to earn a loss. The team sits at a disappointing 2-8 entering the bye week. They’re last in the NFC East and are slotted to select second overall behind the hapless Jacksonville Jaguars.

We have witnessed 10 weeks of Giants’ football and 10 games of Joe Schoen’s third draft class. It’s way too early to judge this class, but for this exercise, we will assign grades to each pick. New York received an immediate return on investment with...

NFL analyst: Giants coach Brian Daboll's seat is getting hotter

The New York Giants thought 2024 would be a season in which they turned the corner to sustained success.

Not so, it seems, as the team has fallen on its face once again out of the gate winning just two of their first 10 games and a killer schedule on the horizon.

The losing of games, of course, has been concerning but the manner in which the team has lost games has fans and pundits wondering if this team is truly headed in the right direction as general manager manager Joe Schoen believes it is.

Head coach Brian Daboll’s bunch...

Giants fans want to see Tommy DeVito start at quarterback

Something has to give for the New York Giants in 2024.

After losing 20-17 in overtime to the Carolina Panthers in what was universally believed to be their most winnable game, the common consensus is that change has to come the Giants over their bye week.

One of the expectations is that the Giants will make a change at quarterback following their bye week. Not only do the Giants have the injury guarantee built into Daniel Jones’ contract looming over them, but Jones just hasn’t been very good.

He got...

Giants land their QB of the future in latest USA TODAY mock draft

The New York Giants (2-8) are headed for another top -0 draft pick and there’s no question they could be in a position to push the rest button at quarterback.

The team has an “out” in Daniel Jones’ $160 million contract after this season and appear to be ready to exercise that clause. That means they could use their top pick next April on a quarterback.

Who will that player be? USA TODAY draft analyst Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz is forecasting that they will opt to select the highest-profile player in the draft.

Pro Football Focus recently ranked the New York Giants offensive line the most improved in the NFL this season, up 23.4 points in the rankings.

They were ranked 32nd — dead last — in 2023.

This past week, PFF ranked the Giants 25th in the NFL after their Week 10 loss to the Carolina Panthers, up four spots from the previous week.

*The Giants moved Jermaine Eluemunor to left tackle and had former first-round pick Evan Neal start at right tackle for the first time this season. Neal put forth an encouraging performance in the loss to the Panthers,...

NFL world mocks Giants after Saquon Barkley's TNF performance

The Philadelphia Eagles took command of the NFC East on Thursday night with a 26-18 victory over the Washington Commanders but it’s actually the New York Giants who are now the center of attention.

Even as Philly fans celebrated the win, they shifted their focus toward Big Blue and publicly shamed them, chanting “Thank you, Giants!” so loudly that the Thursday Night Football Nightcap panel had to pause their segment on live television.

“It feels amazing,” Barkley said. “Last year was a tough year for me mentally.”

It was co-owner John Mara’s worst nightmare realized but it only got worse....
