Yet another former Pittsburgh Steelers player joined the Bolts in free agency to try and help fill a hole
One of the bigger needs heading into this offseason for the Los Angeles Chargers was at the cornerback slot. With multiple corners headed out the door in free agency, the Bolts needed to find some starter level players at the position as soon as possible. Having already signed Najee Harris away from the Steelers, the team turned towards Pittsburgh once more to find an answer in Donte Jackson to slot in as a potential starting cornerback.
Jackson was a long-time staple...

Good morning, Chargers fans!
Welcome to another week of free agency at BFTB. The first week ended on a high note as the Chargers signed former Eagles right guard Mekhi Becton to a two-year deal, finally showing the commitment to upgrade the interior of the line — one of the team’s biggest weaknesses in 2024.
Will they make any further moves in the coming days to further that improvement? What about other positions of need? Where should they target on the roster this week? Feel free discuss it...
The Chargers beef up their offensive line with Mekhi Becton who is fresh off his Super Bowl win with the Eagles.
The Chargers finally signed their much-needed offensive guard.
Late Friday night, the Los Angeles Chargers announced the signing of former Eagles offensive guard Mekhi Becton to a two-year deal. Becton is coming off his first and only season in Philadelphia where he helped them to their second Super Bowl championship in the past eight years.
The 6’7, 363-pound Becton started all 19 games (regular season and postseason) for the Eagles en route to having the best season of his...
The Chargers are signing former Texans and Ravens linebacker Del’Shawn Phillips to a one-year deal.
The Chargers are adding to their special teams and linebacker groups together by signing veteran linebacker Del’Shawn Phillips to a one-year deal, per NFL insiders Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo. Phillips was most recently with the Texans for the 2024 season, but also has stints with the Ravens (2022-2023), Jets (2021), and Bills (2019-2020).
Originally an undrafted free agent out of Illinois, Phillips began his NFL career with the Atlanta Falcons in 2019 but ended up in Buffalo where he stayed through the 2020 season....
The Chargers earned an A by re-signing Khalil Mack. Upgrading at running back with the durable Najee Harris was also good for a B+.
The Chargers have made 13 moves since the start of free agency. Seven have been re-signing in-house free agents while the other six have come externally.
As it stands, it’s a mixed bag. Joe Hortiz has been working the same bargain-bin style of management he showed last offseason while navigating the team’s murky 2024 cap situation. This year, the Chargers had one of the largest available cap spaces of any team, but the process has remained...
The Chargers are extending Taylor Heinicke to backup Justin Herbert for the near future.
Late Thursday evening, the Chargers announced a one-year contract extension for quarterback Taylor Heinicke. Per NFL insider Adam Schefter, the deal is worth up to $6.2 million and will keep Heinicke in Los Angeles through the 2026 season.
The Chargers made a trade for Heinicke prior to the 2024 regular season — sending a conditional sixth-rounder to Atlanta — in order to upgrade at the backup quartetback spot behind starter Justin Herbert. Heinicke had a fair amount of starting experience for both the Commanders and Falcons...

Good morning, Chargers fans!
We’ve finally made it to Friday on the first week of NFL free agency. It’s been a wild, wild week and while things are expected to slow down in the coming days, that doesn’t mean there still won’t be a lack of action around the league.
You never quite know what’s going to happen around the corner.
So stick around, you don’t want to miss a thing.
And now for today’s links.

Naquan Jones joins the Chargers defensive line group after posting a career-high three sacks in 2024.
Per his agent Mike McCartney, former Cardinals and Titans defensive tackle Naquan Jones has agreed to a one-year deal with the Chargers. This is the second external free agent signed by the Chargers today, both of which have been defensive linemen.
Joe Hortiz and Jim Harbaugh have been relentless in trying to flesh out the roster with low-cost signings. The front office double-dipping on depth along the defensive line is actually very needed, but the group is still missing a headliner. The team re-signed...
The Chargers are signing DT Da’Shawn Hand to a one-year deal to help fill out a shallow defensive line room.
The Chargers continue to go bargain bin shopping as they’ve found another low-cost player at a position of need.
Per NFL insider Mike Garafolo, the Chargers have agreed to terms with former Dolphins and Titans defensive tackle Da’Shawn Hand to a one-year deal worth up to $3.35 million. Since the reported deal is “up to” $3.35 million, expect Hand’s cap hit for 2025 to be even lower than that.
Hand comes to Los Angeles after two season with the Miami...
The Chargers need help in the trenches and there still remains a number of possible options on the market, including DT Calais Campbell and OG Brandon Scherff.
I wrote a version of this article on Tuesday following the first real day of free agency. None of the five players on that I listed were signed on Tuesday, giving me further hope the Chargers could get something done. Then came Wednesday and multiple players were signed...to other teams. That included guard Kevin Zeitler (my top available player for the Chargers) and defensive tackle Levi Onwuzurike who signed back with Detroit.
Today...
