The Arizona Cardinals are hiring their fifth head coach since I took over the site in 2016.
After Jess left, I watched the Arizona Cardinals go from Super Bowl favorite back to the dregs of the NFL, it is always interesting to see how these things go.
Think about this, the Arizona Cardinals went from Bruce Arians (who had a “health” issue that led him to retire for a full year before getting back into coaching with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers), to Steve Wilks, to Kliff Kingsbury, to Jonathan Gannon, to whoever is next.
All of those men had no...
Revenge of the Birds
On Black Monday, the Arizona Cardinals severed ties with their head coach, Jonathan Gannon. On the very next day, an interview with DC Vance Joseph was scheduled. Then, the franchise contacted five more candidates in order to set up interviews, some via Zoom, while the others will come in since their teams did not make the postseason tournament.
The NFL never rests.

Revenge of the Birds
The Arizona Cardinals decided that losing 14 games in a season and 36 games in three years was enough. So, head coach Jonathan Gannon was a victim of Black Monday.
And now comes the daunting task of finding the new guy.
What will be his scheme? An offensive guy or a defensive guru? Coming to work from being a coordinator, or having been a head coach before? Does he run a 3-4 or a 4-3 base? How has his side of the ball performed this past year? What challenges will he see if hired? What will the new guy do...
Revenge of the Birds
The Arizona Cardinals aren’t wasting any time getting requests in for head coaching interviews. The issue is that several names on their short list are guys who are currently employed on playoff teams. The NFL has very strigent rules regarding when other clubs can schedule interviews for candidates of head coaching openings.
The league wants teams to focus on winning a Super Bowl ring instead of their coaching staff getting another job the following season. This is not like college football, where head coaches just up and leave right before the playoffs begin (looking at you Lane Kiffin).

The axe has dropped and the Arizona Cardinals have decided to move on from Jonathan Gannon. That begs the question, do you agree that Gannon should have been fired?
I have laid out why I believe he should have been, but understood the limits from a financial reason.
Now the bigger question since Gannon is gone, do you think they...
Revenge of the Birds
The Arizona Cardinals are fresh off the firing of head coach Jonathan Gannon after a historic 14-loss season. During training camp, the team was projected to be a sneaky good roster that would make the playoffs. Black Monday has come and gone, and although there may be a team or two that will still ax their head guy, it appears that this year in the NFL, only six teams will be looking to replace their head coach.
Which is troubling for a team like Arizona. If the league has 8-9 clubs looking for a new head coach, it allows more...

Here at ROTB, we cover the Arizona Cardinals. And believe us when we say that is plenty to talk about. This year, all the talk was about QB Kyler Murray, and then shifted to TE Trey McBride and the single-season receptions record.

Revenge of the Birds
The Arizona Cardinals thought a 14-loss season after being viewed as a playoff team was just too much for owner Michael Bidwell. Jonathan Gannon was fired on Black Monday. The media and fans were split on whether Bidwill would ax the three-year tenure of Gannon, or give him one more season.

The franchise began the season going 2-0 and then lost 15 of 16 games. This roster even set a 127-year franchise record of losing the most games in a single season with 14 losses.

Revenge of the Birds
Well, it wasn’t like it wasn’t expected. The Cardinals set a franchise record for the most losses in a season with 14 by getting thumped by the Los Angeles Rams 37-20 in a game that the Rams had nothing to gain by winning.
Today, on “Black Monday,” Gannon was fired. He finished his tenure in Tempe with a 15-36-0 record in just three seasons.

Revenge of the Birds
The Arizona Cardinals have fired head coach Jonathan Gannon per multiple reports from Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter:
Gannon has been a question for the final part of the season as the Arizona Cardinals lost nine straight games, and was 15-36 overall. More troubling, Gannon was a paltry 2-19 when a quarterback not named Kyler Murray started a game.
Gannon is among the worst coaches in NFL history in terms of win percentage, finishing his first stint as a head coach with a 0.294 win percentage. That, coupled with a defense that never improved over his three seasons, as a...

Ineptness runs the Arizona Cardinals, or at least it has in their history.
In fact, after Jonathan Gannon completed his historic season with the Cardinals going 3-14, the most losses in a single season in franchise history, Gannon has a 0.294 win percentage.
Among qualified coaches Gannon now ranks eight worst in NFL history in win percentage.

The Arizona Cardinals finished last place in the NFC West once again, and they finished 0-6 in the division, meaning they will have a last place schedule, but who knows what that means.
We know their opponents, we know they have nine home opponents, but they may be out of the country for one of those, and we know they have their scheduled matchups with the NFC East and AFC West.
