Surprise!
The Denver Broncos announced that they have traded wide receiver Devaughn Vele to the New Orleans Saints for a 2026 4th-round pick and a 2027 7th-round pick.
I have mentioned this as a possibility in recent weeks, and it happened. Devaughn Vele seemed like the odd man out in the Broncos’ wide receiver rotation, and it made sense for the team to listen to offers for him. In the end, they turned a 7th round selection that entered the league as an older rookie into a 4th and 7th round selection.
That’s a pretty good deal.
What made Vele...
According to 9NEWS Denver’s Mike Klis, the Denver Broncos have signed defensive lineman Michael Dwumfour and have waived rookie undrafted free agent linebacker J.B. Brown. Rookie defensive linemen Kristian Williams did not practice on Tuesday, and the Broncos decided to add some depth to their defensive line for the preseason finale vs. the Saints.
Michael Dwumfour is a 27-year-old former undrafted free agent who has bounced around the league a bit during his short career. During his short career, he has had stints with the New York Jets, Houston Texans, San Francisco 49ers, Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans, the Texans again,...
Tight end Adam Trautman has spent a lot of time around Head Coach Sean Payton over the years. A third-round draft pick of the New Orleans Saints in 2020, Trautman reunited with Payton in Denver via a draft day trade back in 2023.
While not the ‘joker’ Payton covets at the position, Trautman has performed well primarily operating an in-line blocking tight end for the Broncos’ offense. In 34 games with 26 starts, the sixth-year pro has notched 35 receptions for 392 yards, 5 touchdowns and 18 first downs. He doesn’t get targeted much but makes the most of the...
Did the Denver Broncos tight ends in 2024 help or hurt the run game? In order to answer this question we need to see how tight ends did in run blocking across the league in 2024. SISdatahub.com has this data and I have scrubbed it for analysis so we can answer the question.
SIS assigns points for blocking. The best run blocking tight ends in the NFL get 12 run blocking points for the season. Seven tight ends got ten or more points last season for their run blocking.
As you can see, Adam Trautman was one of the best...
Of any position group on the roster, wide receiver might offer the most untapped potential for the Denver Broncos. Led by Courtland Sutton, the franchise has their reliable and trusted ‘X’ target in their offense for their upcoming 2025 campaign. After that, it’s a heated competition with several players vying for more opportunities in the Broncos’ aerial attack.
Marvin Mims Jr., Troy Franklin, and Pat Bryant all have their stock rising after impressive outings throughout the summer. While he figures to play a role in Denver’s offense, Devaughn Vele’s second year progress has slowed from a knee injury that has...
This team had a big problem on each side of the roster last year that is going to make some of the “tough” choices for this roster easier to make for this coaching staff.
Last season, the Broncos were chained a run game that just didn’t get it done. Not only did the backs on the roster lack raw ability to gain yardage through talent alone, but they also had one guy who could pass block decently: Javonte Williams.
One of the big keys for this year’s offense is having options at running back...
The Denver Broncos have been busy signing key pending free agents to contract extensions this summer. Early in training camp, the team signed veteran wide receiver Courtland Sutton to a multi-year contract extension, and soon after, they signed star defensive lineman Zach Allen to a mega-deal. Now, with the start of the regular season right around the corner, the team appears to be working on a contract extension with star edge rusher Nik Bonitto.
He met with the media after today’s practice and told reporters that he isn’t worried about a deal getting done because he knows how the Broncos...
While I wouldn’t consider Calvin Throckmorton to be at risk of not making the Denver Broncos roster, he still has plenty to prove this preseason. He’s here to not only solidify his spot as a second-string offensive guard, but he’s also making a case for the future. Throckmorton might be competing to surpass Ben Powers when his contract is up.
Last week we took a look at why RJ Harvey felt the need to bounce the ball to the outside so often, but now it’s time for the first single-focused film review of the season.
If you’re new to my...
Good morning, Broncos Country!
The Broncos did a lot of things well during Saturday’s preseason win over the Cardinals, so well in fact, that even head coach Sean Payton had to admit there “is going to be a lot of things on tape we like.”
“I thought we did a lot of things well,” he said. “I thought our energy, kind of how we started the game, really in all three phases, there’s going to be a lot of good things on tape we like.”
Not the least of which was the performance of the young receivers. Backup quarterback Jarrett...
The Denver Broncos have completed training camp, are 2-0 in the preseason after two dominating performances, and are now nearing the point where they will need to trim their roster down to 53 players. I did a 53-man roster projection for the Broncos before the start of training camp, and honestly, not a whole lot has changed. Some injuries and breakout performances have elevated players, but overall, this 53-man roster should look fairly similar to my earlier projection.
So, with all that said, here is my post-training camp 53-man roster projection for the Denver Broncos.
*(Note: I am keeping Nate...
Sean Payton decided not to play most starters in the second preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals. While fans likely were disappointed in not seeing the starters play, this provided an excellent opportunity for us to see the depth of the roster and what they bring to the table.
The big thing I learned from this game is that the Denver Broncos were extremely smart in hiring Sean Payton (loss of draft picks be damned). Their roster depth from when he was hired compared to what we see on the field this season is a night-and-day difference.
Honestly, I’m impressed...
The Denver Broncos offensive line took a major hit with the season-ending injury to guard Nick Gargiulo. That opens up some questions with the line depth overall heading into the final preseason game. Last week, the offensive line depth chart looked like this:
Theoretically, this moves Clay Webb into that second-team position. However, that isn’t likely how it...
