Silvy: I don’t believe in Ryan Poles

Silvy: I don’t believe in Ryan Poles

The latest Bears Banter Podcast has dropped!

The Chicago Bears sit at 4-3 after dropping a rough one to the Tyler Huntley-led Baltimore Ravens. To talk about where the Bears are at seven games into Ben Johnson’s tenure, we sat down with Marc Silverman! Yes, Silvy of ESPN 1000’s Waddle and Silvy stopped by the podcast and talked about a variety of topics from the defense, to Caleb Williams, to potential issues in the locker room.

But Silvy had some strong words about Ryan Poles and his roster construction (and I didn’t even bring it up!) and how that might...

Week 9 game preview: Bears vs. Bengals

Week 9 game preview: Bears vs. Bengals

The calendar is turning to November and it’s time for teams to really separate themselves.

Teams that are going to make a run at the playoffs have to start playing well. The teams that aren’t, are going to shift into “who do we fire?” and “how high will the draft pick be?” mode.

Thankfully, the Chicago Bears are a step above those teams for a change. Or at least they are now.

Without improvement, the Bears are going to be flirting with and sitting around .500 for the rest of the season. It’s better than where they’ve been, but it’s...

Caleb Williams Week 8 QB Grade: Bears @ Ravens

Caleb Williams Week 8 QB Grade: Bears @ Ravens

As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. And end it did. The Bears’ four-game win streak, their first since 2018, came to a screeching halt in Baltimore, where the Ravens handed Chicago a 30–16 loss on Sunday.

The Bears were outplayed in every phase. Backup quarterback Tyler Huntley gave the patchwork Chicago secondary fits, Derrick Henry returned to form with two rushing touchdowns, and Baltimore’s defense, bolstered by the return of key players like linebacker Roquan Smith and cornerback Chidobe Awuzie, executed a sharp game plan that stifled a Bears offense that had topped 21...

Bad, Worse, Worst: Chicago Bears vs. Baltimore Ravens

Bad, Worse, Worst: Chicago Bears vs. Baltimore Ravens

Hello, Chicago Bears fans! Well, we all knew this day would come. It can’t be all rainbows, sunshine, and good, better, best in the modern NFL. Sometimes you win ugly, and sometimes you lose ugly. And this was an ugly loss for the Chicago Bears against a Baltimore Ravens team featuring a backup quarterback that the Ravens themselves had tried to move off of over the offseason. So with that said, let’s dive into what was bad, was even worse, and what was the worst in a game the Chicago Bears could have, and perhaps should have, won.

Bad ---...

5 Bears scouting reports from loss to Ravens

5 Bears scouting reports from loss to Ravens

The Bears’ four-game winning streak came to an end on Sunday, as they fell 30-16 to a Ravens team without Lamar Jackson to drop their record to 4-3.

The flashbacks to last year are natural, seeing as though last year’s Bears started at 4-2 and proceeded to lose each of their next ten games. As flawed of a performance as Chicago put together on tape – especially on defense – there aren’t nearly as many concerns with this new coaching staff to believe that magnitude of a collapse is on the horizon. Knock on wood, of course.

As I did...

Bears vs. Bengals One on One: Week 9 Matchup to Watch

Bears vs. Bengals One on One: Week 9 Matchup to Watch

We are fast approaching the midpoint of the NFL season. I don’t know about you, but the season is moving by a lot faster than the weeks that led up to it.

Many people leading up to the season viewed this as about the point where we can fairly evaluate where a Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams led Bears team stacks up. What’s the verdict? Better than last year, but still a ways to go.

In fact, depending on how you feel about the franchise generally, you could probably make an argument for the Bears being playoff contenders or the...

Bears RB Travis Homer nominated for Salute to Service Award

Bears running back Travis Homer was announced as the team’s nominee for the 2025 “Salute to Service Award presented by USAA” on Wednesday.

The award is presented annually by USAA and the NFL, honoring a league member who demonstrates a firm commitment to honoring and supporting the military. In years past, active players, NFL alumni, coaches, and executives have all been granted the honor of winning the award. Former Bears cornerback Charles Tillman won the award when he was an active player in 2011. Former linebacker and defensive coordinator Ron Rivera also won when he was head coach of the...

Bears vs. Bengals Injury Report: WR Room Hit Hard

Bears vs. Bengals Injury Report: WR Room Hit Hard

As the Chicago Bears prepare for the eighth game of the season against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, we are starting to get the first official team injury reports for week nine.

The biggest news is all of the WRs that were listed as DNP (did not practice) on Wednesday for the Bears. This includes Luther Burden III (concussion), DJ Moore (hip/groin), Rome Odunze (heel), and Olamide Zaccheaus (knee). In other words, the top four WRs on the roster.

This probably is not a major cause for concern just yet as we have seen the Bears give some players some...

NFL “STEP Differential” Week 8 2025

NFL “STEP Differential” Week 8 2025

Last year, I started tracking a stat every week that was inspired by Brian Billick’s “Toxic Differential” statistic that combined explosive play and turnover differential into a single number. My version added sacks to the mix and doubled the value of turnovers. I called the statistic “Toxic Differential Plus” as an homage to Billick’s original idea.

In an effort to make the name a little more intuitive, I’m rebranding Toxic Differential Plus to STEP Differential. STEP stands for Sack + Turnover(x2) + Explosive Play Differential. As I have said many times, there are no perfect statistics, so please don’t mistake...
