Bears running back Travis Homer was announced as the team’s nominee for the 2025 “Salute to Service Award presented by USAA” on Wednesday.

The award is presented annually by USAA and the NFL, honoring a league member who demonstrates a firm commitment to honoring and supporting the military. In years past, active players, NFL alumni, coaches, and executives have all been granted the honor of winning the award. Former Bears cornerback Charles Tillman won the award when he was an active player in 2011. Former linebacker and defensive coordinator Ron Rivera also won when he was head coach of the Commanders in 2022.

As the NFL announced in a press release, Homer has been long involved in the military community, particularly due to his family’s roots. Through the Bears’ Home Team Hand-Off ticket donation initiative, he has personally bought tickets to be given to military families for every Bears home game this season. He has collaborated with the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors and Wounded Warrior Project through these efforts.

It’s an honorable cause for Homer, who has been with the Bears since 2023. He was recently activated from the injured reserve and has been a core special teamer for the organization his last three seasons.
