On Tuesday, the New Orleans Saints finalized their initial 53-man roster. Among those waived were 2022 fifth-round LB D’Marco Jackson and second-year UDFA CB Rico Payton. Jackson was claimed by the Chicago Bears, and Payton by the New York Giants.
Jackson missed his entire rookie season in 2022 due to a hamstring injury but has since carved out a crucial role on special teams.
I was surprised by his release, but the fourth-round selection of Danny Stutsman, combined with the emergence of Jaylan Ford and Isaiah Stalbird, made the position group more crowded than expected—leaving Jackson as the odd man...
Since offensive lineman Trevor Penning was selected by the New Orleans Saints in 2022, his career has been filled with ups and downs. Injuries, confidence issues, and lack of development have been the main culprits for these struggles, but it can reach a point where a team is unsure about what to do with a player. The good news was that the Saints viewed Penning as a potential option at their LG spot, which was a massive issue on the offensive line going into the offseason. This move for Penning was always going to be a learning curve for the...
The Saints have made their QB decision, and it may have set up New Orleans for success, regardless of the outcome.
With the first game of the season a week away, the Saints’ roster is almost complete.
With an offense led by Kellen Moore, Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed, Taysom Hill, and Alvin Kamara, are they still a group to avoid in fantasy football?
With the 53-man roster deadline passed, now is the time for teams to put in claims for waived players. With holes still throughout the roster, making additions should be a top task for the New Orleans Saints. Following the 2025 draft order, the Saints are 9th in the waiver order, so they have a chance at some decent players. Expect more moves to be made, but as of now, the Saints have claimed two players from waivers: WR Trey Palmer and OT/G Xavier Truss.
Starting with the former LSU Tiger Trey Palmer, the Bucaneers drafted the wide receiver in the...
The New Orleans Saints cutdown their roster to 53 players yesterday, but as you know, the roster is ever changing due to injuries and needs which is where the practice squad comes into play.
Starting at 11:00 a.m. CT today, NFL teams can add up to 16 players on their practice squad as well as one international player. They can claim unvested players that have been waived and vested veterans (players with a minimum of 4 accrued seasons) will become free agents immediately and are able to sign with any team.
Which means the Saints can soon start to sign...
The New Orleans Saints have finally named Spencer Rattler as the starting quarterback. Head coach Kellen Moore and the staff took their time to make this decision, but in the end, they went with the second-year player. Most of the focus will be on the decision to start Rattler over rookie Tyler Shough, but this could also hint at a potential two-year plan.
Given the uncertainty surrounding the future at QB, regardless of who the Saints name as their starter, covering all outcomes and still coming out with positives would be excellent for New Orleans. This is what could happen...
Time will tell if Rattler can be the franchise QB, but for now, the Saints have their starter for week 1.
Final moves are made to reduce the roster down to 53 players.
An important perspective from the other side of the deal
The hardest time of the NFL season is here. Roster sizes shrink from 90 players to 53, calling for teams to cut or waive 37 players. The New Orleans Saints had to make several tough decisions. The running back room was full of talent, plenty of linebackers stood out during the preseason, and, of course, the quarterback battle. Here are the most surprising decisions the Saints made on Tuesday.
Head coach Kellen Moore has emphasized that third-year quarterback Jake Haener was a contender to win the starting quarterback job in a battle with Spencer...
