With the NFL trade deadline fast approaching, fans’ eyes are turning toward potential upgrades the Green Bay Packers could make to bolster their team for a (hopefully) deep run.
One of the obvious areas of weakness this year is the cornerback position. Nate Hobbs’ play at outside corner through seven games leaves a lot to be desired. Specifically, fans desire a different player. In Hobbs’ defense, there’s talk that he’s being played out of position — the thinking being that he’s much more suited for the slot.
Meanwhile, the offensive backfield appears to be an area where the Packers are...

Aaron Rodgers will be under center for the Pittsburgh Steelers this week, bringing the former Packers quarterback full circle.
Despite a contentious exit from the Packers, Rodgers has been magnanimous this week, praising the Packers and sharing plenty of anecdotes about his time in Green Bay.
Win or lose, Rodgers will become the latest in a surprisingly long list of Packers quarterbacks to start a game against the Packers after leaving Green Bay. Dating back to the Lombardi era (because, let’s be honest, the farther back you go in football history, the less a quarterback looks like a quarterback), at...

There is this one Green Bay Packers sequence from last week that continues to piss me off, and I want to talk about it a little more. Specifically, this sequence is at the end of the first quarter.
Now, it’s unfair to judge individual plays in a vacuum, especially in this offense, where giving certain looks now can open up huge splash plays later. But!
This sequence just makes no sense whatsoever. It’s ridiculous. The best thing I can say is they were maybe trying to take the Cardinals by surprise, because only a complete idiot would possibly call this....

The NFL gets week 8 underway this evening on Thursday Night Football, with this week’s game matching up a pair of playoff teams from a year ago. The Chargers and Vikings both finished second in their respective divisions last season but lost in the first round of the postseason and are looking for more in 2025.
The Vikings moved on from their quarterback, however, and have struggled to put together any continuity this season. Second-year pro J.J. McCarthy remains on the rehab track from an injury suffered a few weeks ago, with Carson Wentz backing up and starting in his...

I don’t expect the Green Bay Packers to just take a loss on their $48 million signing of cornerback Nate Hobbs, nor do I think they should. Hobbs was one of the premier slot cornerbacks to hit free agency last offseason, and he was paid as such. With that being said, be it because of his transition to the outside position or his body not being 100 percent coming off of his summer knee surgery, he has not been playing well recently.
This begs the question: Why is Carrington Valentine, one of the higher-rated cornerbacks on Pro Football Focus this...

While the Green Bay Packers opened up their week of practice with far more injured players than the Pittsburgh Steelers, injury luck seems to be swinging in their direction on Thursday. First of all, three previously limited participants from Wednesday’s practice were a full go on Thursday: left guard Aaron Banks (groin), swing tackle Anthony Belton (ankle) and cornerback Nate Hobbs (knee). Belton is going to be a big domino for the team, as if he’s healthy it could allow for the release of offensive lineman Donovan Jennings — a healthy scratch last week — [to make room for the...

Earlier this week, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who previously played 18 years for the Green Bay Packers, said that the Sunday Night Football matchup between the Steelers and Packers wasn’t a “revenge game.” When meeting with the Green Bay press today on a Zoom call, the four-time MVP made even more news, showing his appreciation for his former club.
Rodgers said the following, according to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky:
“Feel so good about my time there because damn near everything great in my life is because of my football career, and my football career starts, and will end one...

For the second straight day, Green Bay Packers receiver Dontayvion Wicks (calf) has not been participating in practice after dropping out of back-to-back games over the last two weeks. Based on head coach Matt LaFleur’s pre-practice press conference, Wicks’ lack of availability on Thursday was to be expected, which doesn’t sound great for his chances to play on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
To say the least, the Packers’ receiver unit has had to adapt on the fly this year.
To start the year, Christian Watson, who tore his ACL at the end of last season, has been on the...

There are a lot of things that happen every game that can contribute to a win. We don’t need to get into all of them here, but we will be focusing on one huge factor today: explosive plays. Explosives are defined as a pass play that gains 16+ yards or a run play that gains 12+ yards.
In Brian Billick’s Developing an Offensive Gameplan (quite possibly my favorite football scheme book I’ve read), he focuses on the power of explosive plays. In his book, he has four main factors that he attributes to making the biggest impact on winning a...

The Packers arrive in Pittsburgh this week with a moderately disjointed offense and a defense that seems very susceptible to a hard-charging run game. That’s fitting, because the last time they played in Pittsburgh, they found themselves struggling from a moderately disjointed offense and a defense that was very susceptible to a hard-charging run game.
Is that a stretch of a comparison? You bet it is, but you’re here now, so let’s talk about the last Packers/Steelers tilt.
The year was 2023. We were all so young then, and so were the Packers, boasting the youngest roster in the NFL....

Week 8 is just getting started around the NFL, and that means that we’re just getting started seeing the headlines and discussion about Aaron Rodgers’ first (and potentially only) game against the Green Bay Packers. Now that attention has moved on from Week 7 and the Packers’ win in Arizona, all eyes are on the Packers’ upcoming matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football and the constant attention on the Rodgers factor.
For his part, Rodgers appears to be downplaying any potential animosity that he might feel towards the Packers. But let’s face it — this isn’t just...

After practice today, Green Bay Packers receiver Christian Watson stated, “It’s my goal and plan to play this week,” per Packers.com’s Weston Hodkiewicz. Watson is coming off his late 2024 season ACL injury, which landed him on the physically unable to play list to start the 2025 season. Currently, Watson is playing through his 21-day practice window, which by the end of the Packers must decide whether to activate him to the 53-man roster or place him on season-ending injured reserve. On Wednesday, Watson was listed as a limited participant in practice.
The return of Watson probably couldn’t have come...
