While I’m sure we all miss Detroit Lions football, there is something beautifully peaceful about the bye week. Whether you’re out there enjoying the last few days of good weather or sitting at home for 10 straight hours of football, the weekend feels a little lighter without the added stress and anxiety that comes with high-stakes Lions football.
If you’re the lounging football type, why not spend your Sunday afternoon right here with our Pride of Detroit community? All afternoon, our loyal members will be in the comment section providing their thoughts and commentary on the Week 8 slate of...
Pride of Detroit
The Detroit Lions are on their bye week, and it has already started off exceedingly well. One of their division rivals, the Minnesota Vikings, got absolutely embarrassed on Thursday night, falling 37-10 to the Chargers in the second-worst loss of Minnesota’s Kevin O’Connell era.
Now it’s time to look forward to the rest of the Week 8 games, and identify the best possible outcomes for the Lions—and what the NFC playoff race could look like if all the games went in Detroit’s favor.
It’s our Week 8 Detroit Lions Rooting Guide!
Pride of Detroit
Let’s continue our look back at the Detroit Lions’ first seven weeks of the 2025 NFL season.
At the beginning of the season, there were plenty of expectations for the Lions. Despite the change in coordinators, most expected the Lions to maintain a top-five offense due to their overwhelming amount of talent. Breakout years were predicted from players like Jack Campbell. And, of course, the Lions were expected to compete for one of the top spots in the NFL. Check, check, and check.
But not everything has gone as expected through seven weeks. So today’s Question of the Day is:...

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Rachaad White received the highest fine of Week 8 for a play against the Detroit Lions on Monday night. White was fined $46,371 for unnecessary roughness, illegal use of the helmet against Lions safety Erick Hallett. There was no penalty called on the play, but the replay shows a clear violation. Take a look:
Per the NFL rulebook:
ARTICLE 10. IMPERMISSIBLE USE OF THE HELMET. It is a foul if a player:
(a) lowers his head and makes forcible contact with his helmet against an opponent; or
(b) uses any part of...

Earlier this week, we published our latest SB Nation Reacts surveys, brought to you by the folks over at FanDuel Sportsbook, asking Detroit Lions fans two questions:
As for our weekly survey, things have risen back to pre-season expectations. This year, we’ve seen a few dips in confidence following the Lions’ two losses. But after a convincing win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 7—with the “Legion of Whom” dominating in the secondary—confidence has...

We’re pretty close to the halfway point in the 2025 NFL season, and your Detroit Lions are pretty close to expectations at their Week 8 bye. For example, way back in May, Erik Schlitt and I made 2025 Lions game-by-game predictions right after the schedule came out. Both of us had the Lions at 5-2 at the bye week, although the routes there were different from reality. While we both had the Chiefs game as a loss, but we predicted the other loss to come from the Ravens game, not the Packers opener.
Despite getting the record right, this Lions...

Before the 2025 NFL season got underway, there was a lot of chatter about how difficult the Detroit Lions’ schedule looked. At least on paper and before any real football had been played, it appeared daunting. However, as we know, things can change fast in the NFL, and while some of the games to come during the second half will certainly still be tough matchups for Detroit, there are others that don’t look as challenging as they did back in late Summer.
But before we get ahead of ourselves, I think it is important to reflect on the first seven...
Pride of Detroit
With the Detroit Lions on break this week, we felt it was as good of a time as any to check in on some former Lions who are playing elsewhere. The purposes of this is to check in on some players we were fans of last year, and also to determine if Detroit made the right move to part ways.
Let’s jump right in by starting with some of the more difficult financial decisions the Lions had to make in the offseason.
CB Carlton Davis — Signed three-year, $54 million deal with Patriots
Davis was the Lions’ biggest loss this...

In the story that refuses to completely die, the NFL tried to provide a little more clarity on the operation of a ruling during the Detroit Lions’ Week 6 game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The controversy in question has less to do about the call on the field and more to do with whether officials overstepped their boundaries. The Lions ran a trick play that put quarterback Jared Goff in motion and had him as a receiver on a pass from running back David Montgomery. While the play was initially ruled a touchdown, the officials gathered together and decided...

The Detroit Lions are on their bye week, but I’m sure many of the players will be locked in to “Thursday Night Football” from home. That’s because the Lions face off against the Minnesota Vikings next week, their first game against their NFC North foe. Why not do a little early scouting for a big game out of the bye?
The 3-3 Vikings are in action against the 4-3 Los Angeles Chargers in what should be a pretty darn good matchup.
The Vikings are still holding off on bringing J.J. McCarthy back, leaving Carson Wentz to keep the boat afloat...

The Detroit Lions’ secondary was the story of the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With starting cornerbacks D.J. Reed and Terrion Arnold sidelined, along with starting safeties Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph also out, not many give Detroit’s “no-named” defensive backs much of a chance to stop Baker Mayfield and the Bucs offense—that had averaged 34 points in the last two games.
The initial players called on to stop Tampa were already some lesser-known guys, including Arthur Maulet, Thomas Harper, and Erick Hallett. But at the halfway point of the game, the Lions had to rely on another player...

We’re nearing the halfway point of the NFL regular season. Feel free to rub your eyes and get a clearer look at what you just read: We’re nearing the halfway point of the NFL regular season. Time flies when you’re having fun watching the football.
As we have done in past seasons, our staff will be making weekly predictions for every game on the NFL schedule. Each of the Pride of Detroit staff will pick the moneyline (winner of the game, no spread), but some of the members will also pick against the spread and even the over/under lines—there’s an...
