2026 Grit Index: Examining the Detroit Lions’ NFL Draft class

2026 Grit Index: Examining the Detroit Lions’ NFL Draft class

The Detroit Lions acquired seven new players in the 2026 NFL Draft, adding a new influx of young, gritty players to the roster. Some players will immediately challenge for starting roles, while others will compete for situational/reserve roles or roster spots in general, but each of them fits the Lions organization in their own way.

This offseason, we implemented the fourth iteration of the Grit Index, with the hope of contextualizing what they are looking for when they say they want players with “Grit.” To do this, we aggregate data from respected NFL Draft analysts, looking for key terms and...

2026 NFL Draft roundtable: Pick Detroit Lions should have made

2026 NFL Draft roundtable: Pick Detroit Lions should have made

Performance in the NFL Draft is not always defined by the players a team picks. Sometimes it’s defined by the player they passed up on.

Not to bring up a painful example, but Eric Ebron turned out to be an okay player for the Detroit Lions. But when the next three players drafted after Ebron were Taylor Lewan, Odell Beckham Jr., and Aaron Donald, it makes an okay pick look terrible.

So on the next Detroit Lions 2026 Draft roundtable discussion, we don’t talk about the picks the Lions made—we talk about the picks they didn’t make—the picks we wish...

Grading the Detroit Lions’ entire offseason moves on offense

Grading the Detroit Lions’ entire offseason moves on offense

It’s hard to grade individual moves in an NFL offseason without seeing the larger picture. How the Detroit Lions handled offensive tackle this offseason is the perfect example.

Releasing Taylor Decker, on its own, seemed like the Lions were potentially going to get worse at tackle. The finances of the decision made sense, but for a team that spoke publicly about their strong desire to improve the offensive line this offseason, it put them in a pretty big hole before free agency even began.

Then there was the signing of Larry Borom. While general manager Brad Holmes gushed about Borom’s...

Discussion: What is the Detroit Lions’ biggest strength in 2026?

Discussion: What is the Detroit Lions’ biggest strength in 2026?

With the Detroit Lions’ 2026 roster mostly in place following free agency and the NFL Draft, it’s now time to take inventory on their entire personnel.

In the past, this team has been defined by their players on offense. They’ve finished top-five in scoring in four consecutive seasons. Typically, that’s been led by strong play from quarterback Jared Goff, and an offensive line that has allowed the team to move on the ball consistently. They’ve also built a strong receiving corps with Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, and tight end Sam LaPorta. The Lions also have one of the best...

2026 NFL schedule: Detroit Lions projected to have easiest schedule

2026 NFL schedule: Detroit Lions projected to have easiest schedule

The 2026 NFL schedule release is expected sometime in May, but we already know the 17 opponents for the Detroit Lions. Based on a repeating formula, the Lions’ nine home opponents and eight road opponents have already been determined. And based on that, strength of schedule can be calculated before the official schedule even drops.

The most common way to view strength of schedule is using last year’s record of each opponent. Based on that, the Lions are projected to have the sixth-easiest schedule—their opponents averaging a .467 winning percentage last year.

However, after years of data collecting, studies have...

2026 Detroit Lions draft roundtable: Best value pick

2026 Detroit Lions draft roundtable: Best value pick

There’s no such thing as “winning” the NFL Draft, but the closest a team can come to it is maximizing the value in each of their picks. Obviously, that simply means drafting the best players available to you, but every draft that challenge is easier for some teams than others. The more and earlier your picks, the better you chance to pick the best players.

But if a team really wants long-term, sustained success, they need to find value. As teams get better, their draft picks get worse, and it’s up to general managers to find productive players in draft...

6 additional winners from the Detroit Lions’ 2026 NFL Draft

As Jeremy outlined in his post-2026 NFL Draft Detroit Lions winners and losers article, there are several players on the roster who came out of this draft in a better spot. But a few more stood out—players whose job security feels more stable or whose roles are now better positioned for success based on the supporting pieces added around them. Below are my thoughts on six additional Lions players who benefitted from the decisions made for their 2026 NFL draft class.

Once the Lions acquired Scruggs in the David Montgomery trade and signed Cade Mays in free...

Discussion: Are you satisfied with the Detroit Lions’ offseason?

Discussion: Are you satisfied with the Detroit Lions’ offseason?

It is safe to say that after the letdown that was 2025, the Detroit Lions needed to hit reset in 2026. They did not require a major overhaul, but there was a clear need to add affordable talent. With limited capital in terms of salary and draft picks, it was going to be a difficult offseason for general manage Brad Holmes to navigate.

With the 2026 NFL Draft in the rearview mirror, have we finally achieved some clarity? Sure, training camp battles will be had for a handful of starting and depth positions, but as the roster slowly creeps to...

2026 Detroit Lions draft roundtable: Pick most excited to see in training camp

2026 Detroit Lions draft roundtable: Pick most excited to see in training camp

With no Detroit Lions rookie minicamp this year, it may be a while before we’re introduced to the 2026 NFL Draft class. While the group of seven picks may participate in organized team activities (OTAs) at the end of this month, there will be a lot of other things happening at the time, capturing our attention.

So the best place and time to really see these rookies work will be training camp at the end of July. And given how many of these picks were spent in the trenches, you’re not really going to get a sense of their potential...

Derrick Moore scouting report: Why Detroit Lions’ 2nd-round pick was a slam dunk

The Detroit Lions traded up from pick 50 to pick 44 in the 2026 NFL Draft and selected edge defender from the University of Michigan, Derrick Moore. They gave up the latter of their two fourth round picks (pick 128) in order to make the deal with the New York Jets happen.

Moore is a well-built, versatile edge defender from Maryland. He played his high school football at Saint Frances Academy (Baltimore) and was part of the team that gave IMG Academy their first loss in eight years. Moore was a four-star recruit out of high school and turned down...

Discussion: Which Detroit Lions Day 3 pick will have the best NFL career?

Discussion: Which Detroit Lions Day 3 pick will have the best NFL career?

Over the course of his Detroit Lions tenure, general manager Brad Holmes has done a pretty good job on the final day of the NFL Draft. Through five drafts, he’s found the following talents in Round 4 or later: Amon-Ra St. Brown, Derrick Barnes, Malcolm Rodriguez, James Houston, Chase Lucas, Sione Vaki, Christian Mahogany, and Miles Frazier. While the start of that list is certainly better than the end of it—perhaps partially because of how NIL has increasingly thinned out the drafts—Holmes has certainly proven he can find contributors during Saturday’s final draft day.

So today’s Question of the Day...
