Detroit Lions think 2026 international game is ‘highly likely’

The Detroit Lions are clearly expecting to play an international game during the 2026 NFL season.

The NFL recently announced that there will be a total of seven international games for the 2025 season, and with all seven host teams already announced, we can deduce the Detroit Lions won’t play overseas this upcoming season. But team president Rod Wood spoke at the NFL owners meetings on Tuesday and said they are fully expecting to be on the international slate next year.

“I think it’s highly likely, especially given that in (20)26, we’ll have the extra home game,” Wood said to...

NFL considering 2 amendments to Detroit Lions rule proposals

No Detroit Lions rule proposals were accepted at the league meetings this week, but amendments to their rules could gain traction in May’s meetings.

As we previously reported, the NFL failed to approve all three of the Detroit Lions’ proposed rule changes for the 2025 season, but there is some hope that amendments to two of their propositions could be passed before the start of the season.

The Lions’ proposed rule change to eliminate automatic first downs on illegal contact and defensive holding penalties was rejected and there are no current plans to discuss it further at May’s meetings. But...

Notes: NFL can now flex Thursday night games with shorter notice

NFL owners voted to allow less notice when flexing Thursday Night games, which could lead to it happening more often.

NFL owners have tweaked flex scheduling rules to allow for less advanced notice when deciding whether to flex a Thursday night game, per NFL Media.

This will be the third year the NFL is able to flex Thursday night games. Under the first two seasons from 2023-24, a Thursday night game could only be flexed if it was scheduled for Weeks 13 through 17. If that game did get moved, the NFL had to give 28 days notice.

On Monday,...

Dan Campbell provides injury update, expectations for Alim McNeill

It sounds like Detroit Lions DT Alim McNeill is not expected to be ready by the start of the 2025 season.

One of the biggest injury losses the Detroit Lions suffered during the 2024 season was when defensive tackle Alim McNeill suffered a torn ACL in Detroit’s Week 15 game against the Buffalo Bills. Not only did that injury immediately hurt an already-depleated defense, but because it happened in mid-December, it was clear this long-term injury could impact his 2025 season.

On Tuesday, Campbell provided an update on McNeill’s status, and more or less confirmed that McNeill’s 2025 season will...

New Detroit Lions proposal denied by NFL owners

The NFL will not be getting rid of automatic first downs on defensive holding and illegal contact penalties for the 2025 season.

One rule proposal that the Detroit Lions made this year at the NFL owners meetings was denied by vote on Tuesday and will not pass. Detroit offered a rule change to stop automatic first downs from being awarded on defensive holding and illegal contact penalties, but it did not get the votes necessary to pass.

Prior to the vote, Lions coach Dan Campbell made his argument for the rule change.

“Really, I felt like where those are most...

Dan Campbell wants Detroit Lions to get younger at wide receiver

Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell hinted that the team may be interested in drafting a receiver this year.

The Detroit Lions have a strong core of wide receivers as they enter the 2025 season. Amon-Ra St. Brown is a two-time All-Pro who is signed through the 2028 season. Jameson Williams has blossomed into a 1,000-yard receiver, Tim Patrick is back after being the most reliable X receiver the team has had under Dan Campbell, and Kalif Raymond is a versatile depth who has played at an All-Pro level as a returner.

During his breakfast media session at the NFL owners...

Detroit Lions still seeking veteran offensive lineman

Lions GM Brad Holmes made it clear that Detroit is not done adding to their offensive line.

After the 2024 season concluded, Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes promised he wouldn’t neglect the team’s offensive line, committing to keep one of the team’s biggest strengths a strength.

“That’s the engine for us, and so I don’t care how good we ever get on the offensive line, that one right there is too important for not only our team, our quarterback, everything,” Holmes said in January. “It’s our identity, man. So, I think just that alone is just – it’s always...

Open thread: Do you approve of Brad Holmes’ approach to free agency?

Now that we’ve heard Brad Holmes talk about his free agency. do you approve of his strategy for the Detroit Lions in 2025?

To say that the Detroit Lions actions in free agency drew mixed reviews from fans would probably be an understatement. While it was pretty easy to understand what the Lions were doing—saving money for upcoming extensions while focusing on bringing back players they like and trust—not everyone agreed with the philosophy. Some made it clear that they believed the time was now to make a run or two at a Super Bowl and deal with the consequences...

With the 4th pick in the Pride of Detroit Community Mock Draft, the New England Patriots select...

The New England Patriots are in full rebuild mode. With new head coach Mike Vrabel back in Foxborough, the Patriots went crazy in free agency in an effort to build a dynasty once again. They certainly have a lot of new faces in town, but if they are truly going to reclaim their spot atop the AFC East, they’re going to need to start drafting well.

That begins this year, and in the Pride of Detroit Community Mock Draft, we are giving that...

John Cominsky retires from NFL, cites medical reasons

“The Commish” is calling it a career as injuries are forcing him into an early retirement.

After six years in the NFL—-and most recent three with the Detroit Lions—defensive lineman John Cominsky is medically retiring from the NFL. He announced the news on social media.

Cominsky was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, playing in 27 games (starting one) over his first three seasons in the league. In 2022, the Lions claimed him off waivers where his career blossomed. In his first season in Detroit, he played in 14 games, starting eight,...
