For those of you who don’t know, statistics is a big part of my day job. One could argue that it’s the most important part of my day job.
Because of that, I always think the data behind sports is where some of the juiciest stuff is. One statistic that I’ve always been fascinated by but could never really find the raw data to dive into with any real rigor is time-to-throw. Why? Because I think using the average for this statistic is pretty short-sighted as currently reported, and, as it turns out, New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields agrees....

Good morning Gang Green Nation!
The Tennessee Titans waived receiver Treylon Burks the other day. He was a first round pick in the 2022 NFL draft, but he never panned out in Tennessee. His struggles were due, in large part, to injuries. Burks has suffered a sprained LCL, a torn ACL and a broken collarbone in his brief NFL career. As a result, he has played in just 27 out of a possible 56 games. When he’s been on the field he has had issues with drops, and other than a decent rookie year, he has not impressed. It is...
Thursday Night Football, Week 6. Tonight we have a clash of NFC East rivals as the New York Giants host the Philadelphia Eagles.
The New York Giants have gotten off to a rough start to the season with a 1-4 record, good for sole possession of last place in the NFC East. The Giants’ only win came last week against the equally wretched 1-4 New Orleans Saints. Now the Giants seek to start a modest winning streak against the NFC East leading Eagles.
The Philadelphia Eagles have sole possession of first place in the NFC East with a 4-1 record....
It feels like we eventually reach this point in every Jets season. Sometimes it happens late in the year. Sometimes it happens early. Usually it doesn’t happen after only five games, but here we are.
The Jets are for all intents and purposes out of the Playoff race. Yes, they will remain mathematically alive for a while, but we know how this story ends. The Jets are not going to mount a run to get back into postseason contention.
That reality once again brings the great tanking debate to the forefront. Should we be rooting for the team to make...
If you were like me, you were probably a bit surprised at one point watching the Jets’ Week 5 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
I wasn’t necessarily surprised by the result of the game. The 2025 New York Jets experience is one bad performance after another. The surprise was hearing the Fox game announcers talk about the potential the Jets defense has shown. They noted that the Jets were among the league leaders in forcing three and outs on the defensive side of the ball.
Having watched this defense struggle all season long, I found that a bit tough to...
Good morning Gang Green Nation!
Allen Lazard and Michael Carter II did not make the trip to London with the rest of the Jets team this week. Carter has a concussion and is unlikely to join the team in London. Lazard will miss the game for personal reasons. These are two starters for the Jets, but them missing the game almost seems like addition by subtraction. Carter and Lazard have been bad this season. Unfortunately for the Jets, it’s not all that likely replacements for the two starters will fare any better. Therein lies the problem. There are no reinforcements...
The Jets have been without defensive end Jermaine Johnson since he suffered an ankle injury in the team’s Week 2 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Head coach Aaron Glenn suggested the team is expecting Johnson to return to practice on Thursday.
If Johnson is able to return to practice, he will likely be able to play in Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos, even if he is on a pitch count.
The Jets have missed Johnson. He is the only player who is capable of both rushing the passer and playing the run effectively at the defensive end position. The...
Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Jets fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.
The 2025 season has not been kind to the New York Jets through the first five weeks. The team has started 0-5, and there is unhappiness in the fanbase with the performance of both the team and head coach Aaron Glenn. How uphappy are fans? That’s what we will try to figure out in our survey this week for SB Nation...
Good morning Gang Green Nation!
The New York Jets are 0-5 and looking lost. It’s conceivable this team is so bad they end the season losing every game. It’s conceivable, but unlikely. In the Super Bowl era only three teams have lost every game on their schedule. Even the worst teams in the NFL usually manage to stumble into a win or two. This Jets team, as bad as it’s been, has a bunch of games remaining against bad teams. Some of those bad teams will probably self-destruct and get the Jets a few wins along the way. We’ll see....
With 29 seconds left in the first half, the Dallas Cowboys were content to run out the clock and go to the locker room with a 17-3 lead. Instead of taking a knee, they decide to hand the ball off to Javonte Williams on the off chance the running back can break a big run. They aren’t expecting much.
Of course, nothing can ever be simple with the 2025 Jets defense so a big run did indeed happen. 66 yards later, the Cowboys were on the Jets 1 yard line. One play later, they were in the end zone for...
There are a lot of frustrating things with the current Jets defense. Near the top of the list for me is how constantly guys run themselves out of position on play action. Take Jake Ferguson’s touchdown on Sunday. It came on a screen pass.
The screen, however, starts with a fake handoff that sucks almost the entire Jets defense in.
By the time the screen is thrown, the Jets only have two defenders even remotely close to the play. There’s almost nobody to screen because of how hard the defense bit on play action.
The Cowboys are easily able to...
