Brian Daboll expresses “a lot of confidence” in third-year cornerback
It sounds like the New York Giants’ plan at the second boundary cornerback opposite 2023 first-round pick Deonte Banks is to give Cor’Dale Flott first crack at winning that job.
The Giants drafted cornerback Andru Phillips in Round 3, 70th overall, in the 2024 NFL Draft. Phillips has inside/outside versatility, but GM Joe Schoen said after selecting him that Phillips would initially play in the slot.
On Friday, Phillips made clear he prefers to play in the slot.
“I can play both, but preferably the nickel position,” Phillips said. “I...
Rookie sounds wise beyond his years
Tyler Nubin’s emotions almost got the best of him before his first practice as an NFL player with the New York Giants.
“Almost shed a tear when I saw my helmet and my locker,” Nubin, a safety drafted in Round 2, said. “ It’s just awesome. Just being able to be out here, play the game I love, again, especially for this great, storied organization, I couldn’t thank this organization enough.”
The Giants drafted Nubin as a replacement for Xavier McKinney, who signed with the Green Bay Packers in free agency. The Giants are...
The mail’s here!
*Adam Jacobs asks: Happy post draft, Ed. Now that we know the direction the team took for this year, and possibly beyond, I need your help with something. With almost everyone saying the DJ had a bad year before getting injured, am I in the minority who thinks the staff let him down? He was most successful in 2022 when he was allowed to set up on the go, have a couple of routes to choose from, and if nothing was there, take off. Last year, the staff had him drop back like he had a good...
The New York Giants opened their annual rookie minicamp at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center on Friday. It was the first time the media got to see the team’s 2024 draft class in their new environment.
The first-time interviews are usually awkward and little is ever revealed as the youngsters are in awe of their new surroundings and are still finding their way around.
Second-round pick Tyler Nubin, a highly-touted safety out of Minnesota, had to pinch himself. He was finally in the NFL and had landed with one of the league’s flagship franchises.
“Yeah, 100 percent,” Nubin told reporters...
New York Giants news for Saturday
Good morning, New York Giants fans!
The New York Giants selected Kentucky defensive back Andru “Dru” Phillips in the third round of the 2024 NFL draft in an ongoing effort to beef up their secondary.
The Giants plan on deploying the 5-foot-11, 190-pound Phillips in several roles. They entered the draft in need of a physical outside corner. Phillips is certainly physical enough, but he may not fill the bill on the outside.
“Every defense is specifically unique,” Philips told reporters on the first day of the Giants’ rookie minicamp on Friday. “So, this one, some different techniques to what I do down at nickel. Just...
New York Giants rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers, the sixth overall selection in the 2024 NFL draft, recently revealed that he and former LSU teammate, Jayden Daniels, had a $10,000 running bet on who would be this year’s NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Daniels, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, was Nabers’ quarterback at LSU and the second overall selection in the draft by the Washington Commanders.
On Friday, at the Giants’ rookie minicamp, Nabers told reporters that the bet was off.
The bet was canceled after Nabers and Daniels realized they might be bumping up against the league’s policies...
Phillips says he feels the slot is his best spot
The New York Giants' 2024 rookie class completed their first day of school, taking the field for the first of two rookie mini-camp sessions on Friday.
First-year cornerback Dru Phillips, the Giants' third-round pick from Kentucky, will look to seize the opportunity ahead with the Giants looking to fill in their cornerback spot opposite last year's rookie standout, Deonte Banks.
Many have questioned whether Phillips would be used as a slot cornerback or on the boundary. Phillips is clear about his preference.
"I can play both, but preferably the nickel...
Football saved his life and bought his mom a house
Malik Nabers addressed the media for the first time as a professional football player and member of the New York Giants on Friday.
“I’m happy to be here, I’m finally here.” Nabers said of being an NFL player. “Just to get out there running with the guys. It’s a dream come true.”
Coaches say that they want players who love football. Well, Nabers certainly seems to love football, and then some.
“It was the only thing that I felt like I could do with my life,” he said after practice....
Giants hold first of two practices for rookies
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — New York Giants’ rookies were like race horses at the starting gate on Friday as rookie mini-camp got underway at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center. They were raring to go, but head coach Brian Daboll and the Giants were holding them back.
“It’s just an introductory phase for them to see how we operate, start learning basic terminology, figuring out where everything is. It’ll be a good start,” Daboll said. “We don’t really throw a lot at them right now ... we’ll just take it slow. They have...
New York Giants first-round pick Malik Nabers said that he and Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels have called off their $10,000 wager on which of them would win Offensive Rookie of the Year.
The bet, even though made between two friends, likely ran afoul of the league’s gambling policy, which states:
1. No betting on the NFL. ”All NFL Personnel are prohibited from placing, soliciting, or facilitating any bet, whether directly or through a third party, on any NFL game, practice or other event (e.g., Draft or Combine). This includes betting on game outcome, statistics, score, performance of any...
