Cowboys 2026 UDFA scouting: Tommy Dunn Jr. scouting report

History

Tommy Dunn Jr.’s recruitment had an interesting profile because he was not just a pure defensive tackle at the time. He came through as a three-star defensive lineman and tight end, and 247Sports rated him the No. 97 strong-side defensive end in the nation when he committed to Kansas

His true first year...

NFL schedule history says Cowboys will open on the road

The NFL has mastered the art of content, and nothing proves that like the annual schedule release. It is often noted how the league has turned the simple art of sharing when the games that we already know about (in terms of the opponents each team plays and the locations of the games in question) into a massive production.

To be clear there are important details to all of this. For the Dallas Cowboys there is a massive difference in traveling to play the Philadelphia Eagles in September or December based on weather. You get the point.

On Thursday of...

Why the ‘Caleb Downs positional value’ argument may be a myth

Why the ‘Caleb Downs positional value’ argument may be a myth

Prior to the draft there was a lot of discussion about the positional value of a safety, and some of that line of thinking might have pushed Caleb Downs out of the top five and into the waiting arms of the Dallas Cowboys.

Austin Mock of The Athletic explained the issue prior to the draft:

[…] selecting a player who’s expected to achieve surplus value is paramount to roster construction. That’s why quarterbacks, offensive tackles and edge rushers are so coveted, and they are paid accordingly.

Downs is one of the safer picks in this draft, as...

James Houston Needs to be Set Free for the Cowboys in 2026

James Houston Needs to be Set Free for the Cowboys in 2026

James Houston needs a real shot to start for the Dallas Cowboys in Christian Parker’s new 3-4 defense.

I’m not saying James Houston is some perfect every-down linebacker, or that he needs to cover tight ends down the field because that isn’t what he is. But, a pass-rushing outside linebacker is what he needs to be.

The Cowboys moving into more of a 3-4 look should change how we view James Houston. He doesn’t need to be stuck with his hand in the dirt every snap. Let him stand up, get wide, and go hunting.

Christian Parker’s Defense Could...

Cowboys news: Caleb Downs is turning heads in Dallas

Caleb Downs wowing Cowboys teammates already: ‘He knows the whole defense’ – Nick Harris, Fort Worth Star-Telegram

Caleb Downs is living up to the first-round hype.

During last weekend’s rookie minicamp, Downs earned rave reviews for his preparation and his leadership just over the course of a couple of days in the facility.

“He’s the same guy we had in the building on the 30-visit, the same guy we saw on tape,” defensive coordinator Christian Parker said. “He’s just an intentional person, consistent. You know, just flat-lined, not in terms of not having energy, in terms...

Cowboys RB Jaydon Blue needs to earn the RB2 role this offseason

The Dallas Cowboys had high hopes for rookie running back Jaydon Blue, after drafting him out of Texas in the fifth-round of the 2025 NFL draft. Unfortunately, leading up to training camp last year, reports started to surface about Blue’s professionalism and maturity before the team got to Oxnard. Those reports seemed to be true, as Blue only saw action in five games in a healthy rookie season (once recovered from preseason ankle injury), with no great option behind Javonte Williams as the teams RB2.

In the final game of the 2025 season, Cowboys fans got a glimpse of why...

The surprising PFF grades around the Cowboys pursuit of a LB

The surprising PFF grades around the Cowboys pursuit of a LB

Sometimes it’s the moves you don’t make that are the right ones all along. Maybe that’s the case of the Dallas Cowboys missing out on free agent linebackers Nakobe Dean and Quay Walker, both of whom signed with the Las Vegas Raiders. Missing out on these two LBs led the Cowboys to acquire Dee Winters via trade from the San Francisco 49ers.

The former TCU LB seems to have been on the Cowboys radar for quite some time. It’s been rumored they’ve been in contact with the 49ers previously in an attempt to acquire him via trade, but nothing ever...

It is important to remember that it was announced during the week of the Super Bowl that the Cowboys will be hosting a game in Brazil this season and that...

Cowboys 2026 roster rundown: FB Hunter Luepke

Cowboys 2026 roster rundown: FB Hunter Luepke

For one of the lowest paid and least played guys on the roster, Hunter Luepke has plenty of job security. Our roster rundown series moves to the fullback position, where Luepke appears poised to return in 2026 and continue his unique role with the Dallas Cowboys.

Background

Years in NFL: 3
Acquired by: UDFA (2023)

Before 2023, the Cowboys had gone four years without a full-time fullback on the roster. Jamize Olawale was the last to hold that to truly hold the job, and 2019 was his final year in Dallas. But once Mike McCarthy showed up in 2020,...

Cowboys should attempt to reunite Klayton Adams with vet RB via trade

Cowboys should attempt to reunite Klayton Adams with vet RB via trade

By using the franchise tag on wide receiver George Pickens and re-signing running back Javonte Williams, the Dallas Cowboys offense should be much look exactly the same as it did a season ago. As of now, they have mainly focused on improving the defense, and rightfully so.

With the band back together, the Cowboys offense should once again be one of the better units in the league in 2026. That doesn’t mean they should be complacent though. There are some areas they can still stand to improve upon, such as running back behind Javonte Williams.

As things stand right now,...

The Micah Parsons Trade Looks a Lot Better for the Cowboys Now

The Micah Parsons Trade Looks a Lot Better for the Cowboys Now

The Micah Parsons trade was always going to punch Dallas Cowboys fans in the mouth, it hurt, but was necessary.

You don’t trade a player like Micah and expect everybody to just sit there quiet. He was the face of the defense, the pass rush, the chaos. He was the one player offenses had to find before every snap or risk unrelenting pressure.

So when the Cowboys sent him to Green Bay, the reaction was exactly what you’d expect.

Just like anything, the Cowboys fans were split, some hated the move while others knew it was time to move on....

Why the Cowboys should pursue a reunion with this vet

Why the Cowboys should pursue a reunion with this vet

There is no denying that the Dallas Cowboys improved their defense this offseason. With how bad the 2025 unit was, the bar wasn’t very high, but Dallas’ defense looks much better on paper at this point than it did in May of 2025.

That isn’t to say the Cowboys’ defense is a finished product; far from it if we are being honest. There are still multiple positions where Dallas could use additional depth, and adding another pass rusher, cornerback, or inside linebacker seems most likely.

There aren’t tons of free agents still available that could make a sizable immediate impact,...
