Colts training camp battle early preview: Wide Receiver

Colts training camp battle early preview: Wide Receiver

This offseason has marked a stark contrast to years past, because there are a number of starting positions up for grabs regarding the Indianapolis Colts–whereas typically, there’s usually only been one or two under general manager Chris Ballard, who’s admittedly wanted more open competition throughout his entire roster.

The Colts didn’t make a ton of external noise this offseason, as their biggest moves were re-signing both starting quarterback Daniel Jones and lead wide receiver Alec Pierce to lucrative multi-year deals, as well as trading a pair of longtime veteran pillars to other NFL teams: Michael Pittman Jr. (Pittsburgh Steelers) and...

This six-part Colts What If series looks back at some of the biggest turning points in franchise history, from the Peyton Manning draft decision to playoff heartbreak, quarterback pivots and coaching chaos, while revisiting what happened, what could have changed, and how different the Colts might look if one major moment had gone the other way.

For Part 4, we get to one of the most frustrating modern what-ifs because this was not some impossible fantasy created by hindsight.

I wrote about this at the time. In January 2021, before Matthew Stafford was traded to the Rams, I wrote that...

Could a slow start finally spell the end of Chris Ballard’s time with the Colts?

Could a slow start finally spell the end of Chris Ballard’s time with the Colts?

If patience is a virtue, then the Indianapolis Colts are the most virtuous team in the entire NFL. Their cup runneth over and that hasn’t shifted even with the change in ownership. It’s clear to see the Colts prefer continuity, which is fine if the results are present to support it. That hasn’t been the case, but there is one human who has benefited hand over fist from this patience and the generosity it has bestowed: Chris Ballard. He is getting long in the tooth, and the early start to the year might prove to be his ultimate test.

There...

Are you siding with CBS’ best-case or worst-case scenario for the Colts?

Are you siding with CBS’ best-case or worst-case scenario for the Colts?

There are so many ways the upcoming season could go for the Indianapolis Colts. We saw a tale of two halves last year, so it is anyone’s guess how this one may turn out. We still have some time before things ramp up, so until then, we are stuck in the slow offseason. That means articles from even your favorite writers might seem like more fodder than groundbreaking coverage. It may not be the hardest hitting take, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t something to draw from it.

My Stampede Blue colleague, Luke Schultheis, already broke the CBS article down...
