The Buccaneers released long-time backup Kyle Trask and undrafted free agent Connor Bazelak, clearing the way for Teddy Bridgewater to assume the QB2 role.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler initially reported the news, with the Tampa Bay Times’s Rick Stroud adding that Trask sustained a shoulder injury in the final preseason game.
In an earlier move, the Bucs also waived Bazelak, a 24-year-old rookie out of Bowling Green who showed some flashes, but they intend to bring him back on the practice squad per Fox Sports’s Greg Auman. It makes sense to keep a younger, developmental project as QB3 on the practice...

Buccaneers fans woke up to some amazing news on Thursday morning as NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the team is activating wide receiver Chris Godwin and offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs off of the active/physically unable to perform list (PUP) ahead of this weekend’s preseason finale.

Buccaneers wide receiver Jalen McMillan will be placed on injured reserve following a neck injury sustained during the team’s preseason outing in Pittsburgh. During the Week 2 preseason game against the Steelers, McMillan leaped for a pass and came down awkwardly on the back of his head and neck after being up ended following the reception. Though he was able to walk off on his own, he was later seen exiting the stadium in a neck brace.
