The final games of 2024 are about a lot of things on the Browns roster including Dawand Jones at left tackle
As the Cleveland Browns spend time on their bye week prepare to play out the rest of the 2024 NFL season, fans are looking ahead. While GM Andrew Berry, as expected, provided very little tangible plans for the future including QB Deshaun Watson when he spoke to the media on Wednesday.
What we know is that the Browns young players and the NFL draft hopes are really what matters for the rest of the year. [WR Cedric Tillman has...

Last week, the Browns’ confidence jumped to the mid-50s, as fans gained home that all of the team’s problems centered around Deshaun Watson after Jameis Winston had lit up the Ravens. Then came the Chargers, and we saw the team take another step backwards. They had...
Smith was traded on Tuesday so the team could look to it’s practice squad for pass-rush help
The Cleveland Browns head into the BYE week with only three true defensive ends on the active roster in Myles Garrett, Ogbo Okoronkwo, and Isaiah McGuire following Smith’s trade.
They’re going to need some help when it comes to depth for the rest of the season and they could look to the practice squad first, especially now that they’re looking to evaluate everyone that they possibly can.
Let’s take a look at Cleveland’s in-house practice squad options at defensive end:
McGuire has the talent and skillset to be a long-term answer at defensive end across from Myles Garrett
The Cleveland Browns made two total moves on trade deadline day 2024, and one specific player looks to benefit the most going forward.
The Browns sent DE Za’Darius Smith and a 2026 7th-round pick to the Detroit Lions for a 2025 5th-round and 2026 6th-round pick, which is decent value for a 32-year-old player.
Cleveland also officially released DT Quinton Jefferson following the trade.
Regarding the question of “what now?”, this move signifies the team’s comfortability and excitement for their two young...
The talented runner was part of six pro titles as a player and coach
The Cleveland Browns began in 1946 in the NFL-rival league the All-America Football Conference (AAFC). The AAFC was full of former NFL players and coaches and over their four-year history paid more and subsequently signed over 60% of the best incoming college talent.
The Browns won the AAFC title in 1946 and also in 1947 under head coach Paul Brown.

Other than the expected move, it was a quiet day for the Browns. Was there a motive for sitting tight?
The Cleveland Browns had a relatively quiet day at the trade deadline after being heavily rumored for weeks. They opted to sit tight with most of the existing roster except for the obvious trade of Za’Darius Smith to the Detroit Lions.
They ended up trading Smith along with a 7th-round pick in exchange for a 2025 5th and 2026 6th-round pick. The move had been rumored for weeks and came as no surprise across the league.
While not a trade,...

The latest Cleveland Browns coverage from Dawgs By Nature:
Smith may be gone from the Browns, but he’s not gone from their books.
The Cleveland Browns’ big move at the trade deadline was shipping DE Za’Darius Smith to the Detroit Lions in exchange for a couple of draft picks. However, that does not mean that Smith is off the Browns’ books as far as cap space goes, including when GM Andrew Berry had given Smith a new contract this offseason.
Back when we broke down that contract, we noted how Smith was receiving $18.258 million in a signing bonus that would have been spread out over a few void...
How many wins will the Browns reach this season?
The Cleveland Browns are on their bye week with a 2-7 record. I wanted to look at their playoff odds, as unrealistic as that may sound, on FanDuel Sportsbook. The Browns weren’t even given a category for playoff odds.
So instead, let’s look at win totals: with nine games in the books, there are eight games remaining after the bye. The Browns having over 4.5 wins on the season is getting -108 odds, while being under 4.5 wins is getting -112 odds.
In order to hit the over, the Browns would...
With Za’Darius Smith, Quinton Jefferson gone, the Browns roster has open spots
The Cleveland Browns are not focused on the rest of 2024 as their 2-7 record and mostly bad quarterback play dooms them to be focused on the future. At the NFL trade deadline, the Browns added a fifth-round pick to their 2025 NFL draft selections when they traded DE Za’Darius Smith.
Cleveland followed that up by releasing DT Quinton Jefferson.
Those two moves not only leave the Browns thin on the defensive line but with two open roster spots. Those two spots could be filled by DE **Sam...
With Za’Darius Smith traded and Quinton Jefferson released, the Browns DL roster looks different
What looked to be the strength of a great defense for a playoff-caliber team has been pulled apart a piece at a time this season for the Cleveland Browns. After mostly ignoring the defensive line for the first three years under DC Joe Woods, GM Andrew Berry prioritized it in 2023 leading to a top-ranked defense and a playoff appearance.
Like everything else with the Browns, the defensive line just wasn’t good enough in 2024.
At the NFL trade deadline, Cleveland dealt away DE Za’Darius Smith...
