Tuesday Trenches: Well…. Good Then

Tuesday Trenches: Well…. Good Then

I had a whole Tuesday Trenches ready to go Sunday night. It wasn’t a cheerful one. The Bengals had gone bargain-bin shopping at guard, settling on Lucas Patrick, and it felt like the same old story: a glaring weakness at guard and a front office unwilling to spend what it takes to fix it.

That’s still a problem. As it stands, the Bengals may have to overpay Dalton Risner, who has set himself up for a bidding war, just to get a credible answer at the position. Otherwise, it’s Patrick, Cody Ford, or rookie Jalen Rivers. None of those options...

NFL Cutdown Day news and open thread

NFL Cutdown Day news and open thread

Today is one of the busiest days of the year in the NFL, as the Cincinnati Bengals and all other teams must have their 53-man rosters set by 4 pm ET.

Will the Bengals make any shocking cuts? Could we see the rare trade to acquire someone else before a team drops them?

This is an open thread that will be updated as we monitor the Bengals’ latest roster moves.

Below is today’s morning news:

Bengals give Trey Hendrickson big pay bump after hold-in

You probably didn’t miss it, but in case you did, the Bengals and Hendrickson put a...

Bengals DE Isaiah Thomas makes strong case for his future in Cincinnati

The Cincinnati Bengals had a challenging offseason as far as their defensive ends (EDGEs) go. There, of course, is Trey Hendrickson finally getting a pay raise as the regular season approaches, and first-round pick Shemar Stewart also refused to practice due to a dispute with his contract until pretty much right before the first preseason game.

That has left plenty of opportunities for other defensive ends on the roster to leave an impression. One who might have done just that is Isaiah Thomas after rapping up a wonderful preseason:

The real question is whether that will be enough to actually...

2025 Bengals Cuts Tracker

With Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season looming, the Cincinnati Bengals will soon be trimming the current team down to a 53-man roster.

Along with all other 31 NFL teams, the Bengals have until 4:00 PM ET on August 26 to trim the roster down to 53 active players. Once players are placed on waivers, they’re eligible to be claimed by teams until 4:00 PM ET on August 27. After that, the waived players who go unclaimed are eligible to be signed as free agents or to practice squads.

The practice squad can hold 16 players and, in some...

Kris Jenkins had the best camp of any defensive player, says Al Golden

The Cincinnati Bengals have struggled to get interior pressure on opposing offenses.

They may have found part of the solution this offseason.

Kris Jenkins Jr., a second year player out of Michigan, is quickly emerging as a difference maker.

He’s shown the ability to shed blockers in practice and preseason games.

As a result, defensive coordinator Al Golden said, per Kelsey Conway, that Jenkins had the best camp of any defensive player.

“I’m really excited about him and his versatility,” Golden said to the Enquirer beat reporter. “He’s become a better pass rusher on early downs. We’re giving him the...

NFL waiver wire explained: Bengals players subject to the process

NFL waiver wire explained: Bengals players subject to the process

The Cincinnati Bengals have nearly 60 players who could be subject to waivers as they look to cut down from 90 players to 53 by the August 26 deadline and beyond.

Of course, several players on their rookie contracts should be safe from getting waived, such as offensive tackle Amarius Mims. But if any of these players are waived this week, they will be subject to the waiver wire pool and can be claimed by another team.

If not, they can be a part of Cincinnati’s 16-man practice squad, which will likely be finalized the day after the cutdown date....

2 men arrested for allegedly attempting to steal smoker from Paycor stadium

The Cincinnati Bengals wrapped up their preseason on Saturday afternoon with their annual game that doesn’t count against the Colts. The game was played to completion, but it was what happened after the last fans left Paycor Stadium that was probably the most entertaining, at least for Bengals fans.

That’s because two men were arrested after they allegedly broke into Paycor Stadium in an attempt to steal a BBQ smoker, according to WKRC.

The two men, identified as Alex Winegeart and Kaleb Truong, were arrested Sunday morning. Truong was caught on security cameras hopping over a fence and attempting to...

Evan McPherson made major mental adjustment to get confidence back

Evan McPherson made major mental adjustment to get confidence back

In his rookie year, Evan McPherson was so good that he played a big role in the Cincinnati Bengals’ Super Bowl run.

The kicker out of Florida made clutch kick after clutch kick, all the way through the postseason.

But he hasn’t been quite the same since then, especially last year, when he went just 16 of 22 on field goals.

This offseason, though, it looks like he’s back to being his normal confident self.

In three preseason games, McPherson was a perfect 3 for 3 on field goals, including two 50 yarders. He was also a perfect 9 for...

Mitchell Tinsley securing roster spot will be best story of Bengals’ offseason

There’s a winner for feel-good story of the Cincinnati Bengals’ offseason, and his name is Mitchell Tinsley.

The undrafted player out of Penn State was a long shot to make a roster that included Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and talented emerging talents in Andrei Iosivas, Jermaine Burton, and Charlie Jones.

But, after wowing coaches and quarterback Joe Burrow in practice with tough catches, Tinsley went out and dominated in the Bengals’ preseason game against the Washington Commanders.

Zac Taylor didn’t need to see anymore. He sat Tinsley for the final preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts, indicating the receiver just...

Positive injury update on Demetrius Knight Jr.

Positive injury update on Demetrius Knight Jr.

The Cincinnati Bengals wrapped up their preseason on Saturday, and rookie linebacker Demetrius Knight Jr. was not on the field. Knight was held out of Thursday’s practice with a “lower extremity” injury as well. With the season opener just two weeks away and Knight expected to play a big role in the defense, that could be a cause for concern.

In a game where no starters played, Head Coach Zac Taylor said that had Saturday’s action been a real game, Knight would have suited up.

That is good news about the rookie linebacker who was essentially listed as a day...
